Peter is an expert in the field of anger based lost control, intimate partner violence, compensatory power and control and addiction. Unlike students and practitioners of general counseling psychology, for the past 20 years, his study and practice has been specific to biopsychosocial nature to compensatory cycles of emotional and behavioral lost control. Beginning with his graduate research, he had as his case study the life-spans of individuals who committed intimate partner homicide in contrast to individuals who violently offended within their communities (while under the influence of alcohol and other drugs). As a result of this in depth contrast study, he gained unprecedented and unparallel insight into the acquisition, actuation, and maintenance to cycles of emotional distress expressed through Anger Based Aggression, Entitlement Based Coercive Control (Domestic Abuse), and Addictive Behaviors.

Peter holds a Master of Arts Degree from Norwich University, Vermont. His concentration of study was Counseling Psychology specific to Addiction Theory and Intervention Applications. He is a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer specializing in stress management through the National Federation of Professional Trainers. He is a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist and Staff Consultant for the Anger Management Training Institute, and a Certified Addiction Specialist with the American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders, founded by Harvard School of Medicine – Division on Addictions. He is in private practice in Hampstead, New Hampshire. To contact Peter directly, email: peterstone@MyDiscover.org.

When are people going to get real? When society reads in the newspaper or catches on local news channels the headlines: Murder-Suicide, Domestic Abuse Homicide, or Workplace Violence, they are intrigued out of the common interest that everyone has been frustrated in a relationship at home, work, and within their communities. It is from this realization people find themselves captivated in their wonder of why: “Why would a person go to such extremes as to purposefully destroy a life, family, or organization?”

I recently saw a banner — set in place for Recovery Month — that read: “Recovery Happens.” My question is: “What is implied here?” Words have meaning, and when those words are demonstrative of a process to behavioral change, people either simply disregard, are motivated by, or are intimidated by what they perceive and think about the process. For this, I call for a Matter of Perspective. Matter of Perspective: My Perspectiver

The Human Conditionr Volume 1, Part 01 Have you ever wondered what is the platform for our one and only human experience? I have, for I once destroyed 99.9 percent of my human experience. With one tenth of my experience left, I took the time to learn how to learn from my insecurities. I learn to embrace that which one time intimidated me. I learned how to embrace my insecurities not as my weaknesses rather my strengths. I learned that whatever thought I validated influenced how I felt, and how I felt dictated my actions. The title reads, "Nine people killed in Connecticut workplace shooting (www.necn.com 8/3/10 1:16 PM). Reportedly, an employee who was asked to resign from a beer distribution center chose to communicate to the world how he felt about losing control. My first thought was this is the Golden Nugget for all of those who think alcohol is at the root cause of violence. This incident has nothing to do with alcohol and more about how the workplace community is ignorant to the impact felt when a person is threatened with loss of control.

Psychology is in trouble on so many fronts. Beside the obvious, with on-demand texting, email, chat, forums, blogs and such, people do not have to schedule appointments, wait, be exposed to antiquated talk therapy, and quite frankly disappointment for a system failed. When the first words from a client whose child is in distress at school is: "Do you take insurance?" Something is wrong. Since when did insurance become a screening process to efficient and effective mental health.

Executive In Life (Part One) In your life, you are the Executive involved, or maybe not. If you are feeling challenged, fulfilled and in balance between your personal, work, family, and relationships; if you are feeling fulfillment from all of your efforts, then you are, indeed, the executive of your life. For you, your personal power of control to make life happen is paramount. For you, your feeling good about your self-involvement is directly proportional to the mental health skills you apply. When faced with conflict, you embrace your self-efficacy to make change happen.r

Whatever we experience, we allow happen. It is our personal responsibility to socially teach others how to treat us. If not, we lend control over to others to treat us as they well. This is unacceptable. Peter Stone, MA,CPT,CART,CAS

How to get started

I am currently working on a monograph series, Psychology In Trouble. This monograph outlines my perspectives of mental health. For example, How did we get to the point that the first question asked is: "Do you accept insurance?" How is it that the anger response, which is not a mental disorder (DSM-IV-TR) is treated and billed as a mental disorder?

You can follow my work by logging into www.MyDiscover.org or email me directly at: peterstone@MyDiscover.org. I have a unique perspective that I have cultivated over the past twenty years. In effect, the key to mental health is embracing and validating the fact that mental health is a skill, as in all skills requires proper technique, form, and practice. The MyDiscover Model is a three tiered model that provides its participants with efficient skills and motivates for enthusiastic practice for long-term behavioral change.
