Raining DeerAuthor - Raining Deer, a/k/a Jeanette Stephens-El, is a breast cancer "Victor"/Life Coach. One of four sister survivors, she resides in Moorestown, New Jersey after a 24 year love affair with Miami, Florida. During her prolific stay in Miami, she wrote for several newspapers; was creator and editor-in-chief of Southern Dawn Magazine; publicist for Philip Michael Thomas (star of MIAMI VICE); was founding director of a writers workshop; and coordinator of an annual bookfair. She was executive director of a cultural arts commission and a board member of various arts organizations. A Leadership Miami graduate, Raining Deer was a Price-Waterhouse nominee for the Up & Comers Award and attended Miami-Dade College. A member of the United People of the Cherokee Nation, Raining Deer wed the medicine man of the Cox-Osceola Seminole Tribe in Orange Springs, Florida in 1990. A recipient of the Candace Art & Culture Award from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, she is an “Iyeska,” which is Lakota for spiritual interpreter, and is author of BCV – Rites of Passage for Breast Cancer Victors (Author House 2006); as well as 10 Tips to Avoid Breast Cancer (Unless It's in the Genes)(Raining Deer 2007); and T-Time: A Rites of Passage Manual for the Adolescent Female (Author House 2005). Raining Deer presents Tea Parties for Breast Cancer Awareness and speaks to numerous corporations and government agencies wherein she shares her unique journey of trial and triumph. As a member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition and a Race Chair for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Philadelphia, PA, Raining Deer is joined annually on Mother's Day in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection by over 100,000 of her "closest" friends. This celebration of life raises millions in support of breast cancer awareness programs, screenings, treatment and research. Now that's the power of pink!
