dddd In pursuit of that yearning, back in the 1990s, I started writing a weekly newspaper column designed to help the discouraged, distracted and disillusioned discover and develop real meaning and purpose in life. I continue to read, research, and write with the same goal in mind.

The column (and this blog you are now reading) is published in several papers and read by thousands every week. On the blog, I often post additional articles and thoughts that I hope will help you get the most out of your life.

I grew up in a parsonage, have been a missionary, pastor, author, publisher and more. My viewpoints are unapologetically Christian based.I are allowed to spend a limited time on this little blue planet; therefore, I believe we should do everything we can to squeeze the most life out of each day God gives us.

For those who want to know more – here is some personal stuff about yours truly:

My wife of over 51-years and I have been on a variety of adventures – from being missionaries in Zambia for 7-years to house sitting on an elegant estate in Point Loma (San Diego) Califo ia for 9 months.

Though I barely graduated from High School in 1961, I fell in love with education and have three earned degrees. But mostly I love to self-educate. I read voraciously, have been to uncountable seminars and training sessions, and I love to join discussion groups on almost any subject.

As the years go by, I have never stopped learning. It is clear to me that the more you know; the more you know you don’t know. (I think it was Aristotle who first said that.)

Besides a variety of interesting adventures over the years, I have also endured a few not-so-significant achievements, many of which I have subjugated to the land of forgotten screw-ups. I have been fired from jobs, missed some great opportunities, made bad investments, and started businesses that failed. I have also disappointed friends and loved ones with unwise words, foolish ventures, and dim-witted decisions.

But through it all I knew one thing, I was here for a reason and by golly I was going to fulfill my destiny. It did not matter to me how far I would cropped jacket Smallhave to travel, how many books I would have to read, classes I would have to take, or how many mistakes I would have to make. I had a mission to accomplish, even if at times I didn’t know what that mission was.

And the pilgrimage continues; I’m still striving toward that end.

That is why I write “You’re Something Special.”

I write it for you … and for me … to help us both on our quest for meaning and purpose in life.

What you hate, love, fear, laugh at, cry about, or observe without sensation is determined by your own unique and wholly owned emotional structure. You and I could cheer for the same football team, yet experience it in a variety of ways. You could attend a concert with your best friend and each of you would be moved by a different song. Two girlfriends for life could watch the same sad movie and one would cry while the other would not. It’s because each of us places a different emotional value on every word spoken, every deed performed, and every event observed.

Artists and musicians are not the sole proprietors of creativity. Common folk like you and me are also able to solve problems, write music, create art, and come up with new ideas. Remember when you were a child and you could fly airplanes, drive trucks, dress like a princess, or travel around the world all within the confines of your own living room? What happened to those uninhibited creative forces? Where has the sense of adventure gone? Lost, most likely I suppose, to the urgency of the mundane – to the requirements of daily living.

There are a large variety of spiders in Africa and all of them are quite scary. One weekend my wife had a close encounter with one of those large spiders – it was at least as large as a saucer. She was home alone with our two toddler children in our tiny house located about 11 miles into the bush from Lusaka, Zambia. She was more than alone as I was out of town and she had no vehicle, no telephone, no electricity and she was about a quarter of a mile from the nearest neighbor with no streetlights and no paved roads.

Wikipedia’s explanation of faith begins with this line: “Faith is belief in an idea that is unsupported or contradicted by evidence … largely reserved for concepts of religion.” Humbug. That’s not faith, that’s stupidity. Faith is not something for weak minds or emotional morons. True faith engages the mind, emotions and will for a confident anticipation of advantage.

By Ron Ross Feasting, football games, and of course, Black Friday sales often bury the true meaning of Thanksgiving. What is your definition of success? There is nothing more personal than the definition of success. Quite honestly, the dictionary definition is inadequate, and though your mother’s opinion is probably still important, only you can define success for you! And that definition can change literally from day to day and even moment to moment. If you’re broke, success equals wealth. If you’re sick, success equals health. If you’re lonely, success equals friendship. If you’re homeless, success equals a place to live. If you’re lost, success equals being found.

Everyone endures bouts of loneliness from time to time. They are usually short-lived because the causes are either social (broke up with their girl/boyfriend, got a divorce, had a fight with their best friend, etc.), or geographical (moved to another job, town, school, etc.). Mentally healthy people adapt quickly to new situations and are able to establish constructive relationships. Sometimes, however, loneliness can trigger either one of two extreme reactions: isolation or obsession.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Ronald Ross

Why are so many, so content to live lives of quiet desperation? I would suggest a couple of reasons.

First of all, most people do not actively seek meaning in life. They are content simply to let life happen to them, rather than take the effort to make something meaningful out of each day, or week, or month. Significance comes only to those who seek it, and to seek meaning takes great effort.

Second, most people are self-centered and interested only in satisfying their own personal wants and needsj. That's how they miss ciscovering their own personal usefulness. They think the world owes them a living. They want to be served rahter than to serve, and are content being takers rather than givers, or spectators rather than participants.

But not you! You want more from life. You want to fulfill your destiny, and to do so with confidence. You want to be that someone special you know God has created you to be.

How to get started

You need PERSERVING POWER to succeed.

Your perseverance power is divinlely infused into your soul.

You have already persevered in many areas of your life, and you can build on that perseverance power and move to the next level.

You will want to quit, and that is normal, but you don't have to. Perseverance builds character -- so those who persevere come out better, stronger, happier, and more resilient than those who too quickly surrender.
