Career Focus
I’m mainly an author, and my one consuming passion is helping people find hope and inspiration through my essays, articles, poems, and other works of creative non-fiction. Since part of my job is done pro-bono so I can reach out to more individuals, I find other ways and means to earn to support my writing. I have a small workshop at home where I design greeting cards, gift cards, and bookmarks, and occasionally, I proofread documents and get paid on a freelance basis.

(1.) They take time to determine what they truly want and how to get it. Any sensible and mature person has his own idea of what he wants most out of life. People who set goals hold mental pictures of what they would like to materialize before their very eyes. For example, an obese or overweight man might plan to submit himself to a diet-and-exercise program in order to regain his health. A high school student who wants to put herself through college will study hard to win a scholarship.

I’m an artist by nature, and one of the most effective tools I employ when I set out to achieve a goal is creative imagining. Creative imagining is simply the process of using visuals to bring out your desired outcome. It’s an extremely pleasant way to help you enjoy goal setting. Being able to see the results of your goals in pictures will provide an added incentive for you to work hard towards your goals. When the going gets tough and you’re tempted to quit, all you need to do is refer to these pictures often.

“I can’t get a decent job because I didn’t go to college.” “I can’t make friends because I’m shy.” “I can’t join the organizatio I want because I have to make a speech.” “I can’t play a sport because I’m overweight.” “I don’t want to be president of the club because I don’t know how to lead during meetings.” Do these things sound all too familiar to you that they’ve become an innate part of your speech and the way you think? Have you noticed that too often we don’t hold an honest and exact opinion of ourselves?

Once you’ve decided to jumpstart the process of getting rid of a negative habit, let me give you two words – just two very powerful words – that will help you tremendously: I can. We human beings are a strange lot. We sign up for college courses in order to build careers. We reduce our food intake and exercise to lose weight. We doll ourselves up in order to attract the man or woman of our dreams.

In the process of building your self-esteem, don’t neglect the importance of acquiring practical life skills. A person can be physically attractive, incredibly talented, materially gifted, or highly educated and intelligent yet still end up a failure due to making poor choices.

The moment you determine what your goals are, you would need to start with the process of doing your best to achieve them. Set aside a few hours now to develop a goals program. A goals program is a step-by-step, time-bound plan designed to track your progress. The first thing you would need to know is that different programs suit different people. While goal setting requires that we exert effort, tenacity, dedication, and willpower, each of us has a unique approach of pursuing what we want.

How to get started

As a young professional woman, a freelance writer, and an entrepreneur, I have accumulated a diverse range of life experiences by actively learning through adult and continuing education, reading books on personality development, and surrounding myself with positive people who share my values.

Early on, I have figured out what I wanted most out of life and developed a distinct self-identity. I'm passionate about setting and achieving goals. I'm a self-starter -- it doesn't take too much to motivate and push me towards the right direction. I map out plans and keep to-do lists, write down a list of affirmations, and implement the steps until I reach my desired result.

Also, I had always been upfront about my faith, and being a devout Christian has given me a balanced perspective about life's most pressing issues. And as a Filipina, I'm fully aware of the numerous advantages of being tuned in and oriented towards American values (among them equality, freedom of expression, and getting a good education) without disregarding my Asian upbringing.

I have achieved a lot of things on my own, such as fulfilling my childhood dream of being both a writer and an artist, earning a profit from my home-based enterprise, gradually moving towards financial independence, and mentoring children.

I do my best to live a life of excellence, and I wake up every morning with a purpose in my mind and heart.

Other highlights

I'm an advocate of freelancing, either as an excellent way to make extra income, or a full-time career. In November 2012, I started a blog, where I publish free information to make it easy for anyone who's interested to gain access to facts about freelancing, the credentials and training needed, plus, lots of tips on cultivating a positive attitude towards work.
