Born in Europe, raised in India and now living in the U.S, Dr Sharma spend a significant part of his life in a spiritually oriented residential school in India where meditation was a part of daily life. He then went on to study at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. On receipt of a full Scholarship, he went to Europe, where he graduated from the University of Durham as "Outstanding Student of the Year."
After a successful career running a software company, Dr Sharma returned to his core interest in the potential of the human mind and how to develop it through meditation and other life enhancing skills he has learnt. He is the author of "From Here to Happiness" and several guided meditations. He is also a director of East-West School of Integrative Healing Arts that he runs along with his wife Kristen,

What is Meditation?
Meditation is often associated with either relaxation or spirituality. It can be either a relaxation technique or a spiritual practice - both of these are just specific applications of meditation. Meditation is a method of changing your state of consciousness. Many texts commonly refer to the three ‘normal’ states of human consciousness – waking, dreaming, and dreamless sleeping, and a fourth spiritual state of consciousness sometimes referred to a ‘transcendental’ state. There are in fact thousands of states of consciousness.
