Why You Need a Health Plan
How many of us have actually taken the time to sit down and develop a plan for health? How many of us just go day-to-day, constantly changing plans (or not making plans), just wondering, and hoping, we’ll stay healthy. My experience has been that most of the people who come to me for personal coaching don’t really have a health plan in place. They drift from plan-to-plan trying to find something that meets their lifestyle needs.

Secret Ingredient to Weight Loss
Feeling stressed? There’s a pill for that. Want to loose weight? There’s a pill for that too. Sadly, many patients I see today have been ingrained to expect pills to solve their problems, especially for weight loss. I recently had a pleasant, 42-year-old, lady come into my office with complaints of fatigue. Additionally, she wanted to lose weight, and she was feeling a bit anxious. As I began explaining to her the key things she needed to do to boost her energy and loose weight in the process, she stopped me with a sentence all too familiar.

The Key to Good Weight Loss
Eating well is not always easy. You are constantly surrounded with an abundance of not so healthy choices to eat. While it’s okay to eat them periodically, if you want to stay healthy, you should do so in moderation. The key to staying healthy is to become a seeker of good foods. I love fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lean meats, nuts, and whole grain breads. These things are delicious. I love to eat. I love to sit down to a nice home cooked meal, and I love going out to a restaurant with some friends. I never feel guilty about what I eat. You don’t have to either.

Don’t Let Injuries Stop Your Health
I recently dislocated my shoulder playing hide and seek with my kids. Now before you start laughing (I know…too late) let me explain. We were playing a serious game of hide and seek in the dark. I was trying to pull myself up to a shelf where I could lay down and hide. As I got to the top of the shelf, I slipped. I managed to catch myself on two different shelves at different heights and quickly felt a pain in my left shoulder. I decided to ignore it and attempted to reach for the shelf again.

The Extraordinary Human Body
Your heart beats 100,000 times a day. Your blood vessels, if laid end-to-end, would cover 75,000 miles. Your kidneys filter over 50 gallons of blood a day. You don’t think about any of it, and it still happens. The human body is an amazing thing, and all you need to do to take care of it is exercise and eat right. But do you? You have the easy part of the deal. What if you were responsible for generating ATP inside your mitochondria millions of times a day? It is amazing how hard we make things that are so easy to do, especially when it comes to taking care of our bodies.

The 100 Percent Decision
It is safe to say, working out has been part of my routine for as long as I can remember. It has become part of me. Sure there have been periods of time when my workouts may not have been as hard as usual, but I can honestly say I have worked out in some form for the last 35 years. I have found what works and what doesn’t!

Are you doing these exercises?
Exercise is an important part of your lifestyle, but it involves more than just physically moving and working out. Exercising your brain and stimulating it to continue to grow through exercises of the mind is extremely important. At birth, your brain contained about 100 billion neurons, or nerve cells, waiting to find a network of sorts to connect to. As you grew, your brain started to eliminate neurons that were unable to find connections. The good news is that as you age, you brain has the opportunity to produce new neurons and make new connections if you exercise it.

Develop a Super Human Immune System
Tis the season of colds and flu, and my urgent care clinics in Texas and Arkansas have the patients to prove it. In fact, for the past few months they have been inundated with people who have everything from respiratory viruses and sinus infections to flu symptoms and colds. The scene is nothing new. This is the “busy season” in the urgent care business, but you don’t have to fall victim to cold and flu season.

Find the Hidden Sugar and Lose the Weight
Every day patients come into my practice and ask me why they cannot lose weight. You would not believe the multitude of excuses I have heard from people who just can’t seem to lose the extra pounds; everything from being born with a slow metabolism to thyroid problems and my personal favorite, “I am fat because I enjoy being fat.” As I teach people the principles of maintaining a healthy weight, I am constantly amazed at how often I hear, “I am already doing all that stuff. There is something about me that is different. Isn’t there some drug you can give me to take the weight off?”

The 85/15 Rule for Healthy Eating
By: Dr. Tim Last night my wife made chocolate chip cookies. For those who don’t know it, my wife makes the best chocolate chip cookies in the entire world. She only makes them to torture me. She fills the entire house with the aroma and then the cookies sit on the cooling rack saying, “Eat me now.” (It’s true. I can hear them.) They are never satisfied. If I eat one, the others just start calling louder: “Eat us too.”
