Homestead Happiness
We live in buildings for highly specific reasons. Safety. Security. Health. All these are top of the pile. Humans will enter buildings that are not theirs for specific reasons also. Benignly it may be to shop, or perhaps to visit friends or relatives. In both shops and homes there will be possessions. Owned by the shop or the householder.

An Insight Into Gangs (Part 1)
To better understand gangs one must first attempt to understand the reasons why people become involved with them. To ignore this crucial first step is to immediately begin to travel down the path of ignorance, leading ultimately to the want (however justifiable it may be) to forms of summary and (more) extreme punative justice. The problem being, that whilst this will salve the genuine hurt of those innocently affected, in itself it will do little to prevent a recurrence of crime by the offender upon release from the CJS.

An Insight Into Gangs (Part 2)
Orrn Understanding Is Not The Same As Excusing In the Prime Ministers speech today, David Cameron commented on the ‘holds’ gangs have on their members. This I think, is slightly missing the point. Any possible hold a gang has on its members is immaterial to the gang member, until they are at such times as they either don’t wish to act out something, or, wish to leave. Either can invariably be some time along the path.

An Insight Into Gangs (Part 3)
Can Anything Change (cont.) The fact is – crime exists, and as we can see, social unrest does also. The UK riots may have cost upward of 100 million pounds. Add to that the potential cost to the resources of the criminal justice system, it may reach closer to 200 million. It must be realised that immensely more resources need to be pumped into the CJS to deal with this. I’m talking about the whole spectrum. The Night of the Long Knives
The Night of the Long Knives Some of you who know me personally from my home area, will know that throughout my life as a 'career idiot', i was involved in knife violence, including being stabed in the chest & back myself. One such incident stands out among the rest, both in terms of frenzy, injuries, and taking 'responsibility' by all people involved. For various reasons there won't be a detailed journey of events, suffice to say it's important to set the appropriate scenario.

Simplicity is Key
Combatives is a loose term indicating a collection of actions that tend to deal mostly with the conflict phase of an engagement. The whole purpose of combatives is to teach you in the shortest time possible how to realistically protect yourself. It must be simple, else it isn't combatives.

Distraction & Evasion
This article is very hard for me to write. It conce s one of the two most terrifying moments in my life. That even now, some 9 years later, i still can feel the mental scars. Writing this, adrenaline is running through me, and i'm becoming very emotional. I've only told this event to my closest of friends, and my family. i've never used this in an advisory, teaching format specifically before, although my teaching is without a doubt based on such personal events. If in this, i come across in a way that seems out of character for a self defence Instructor, it's cause i'm just human.

A Tale of Attempted Abduction
This event is the second of two of the most terrifying in my life. Like one of the other attempts on my life i've spoke here about, i've never spoke in 'public' about this before either. Without a doubt i'm emotionally damged by this still. In a strange way, maybe more than when that four man gang came to see me. This event occured a bit more recently, and was the last major event i experienced at the hands of terrorists. As far as i'm aware, i've still got serious problems in some places in my home country.

Sensibilities of the Senseless
Driving around most of Nottingham this evening, one would be forgiven for thinking it is just another sunny day, in a great city. The city centre was full of shoppers earlier, with many making their way to the local derby football match this evening. Trouble in an area last night (where 50 cars were wrecked, and people’s homes attacked) seemed almost a foggy nightmare to many. Unde eath this almost idyllic picture is clear signs that society is falling apart in various ways.
