Dr. Zandra Steinberg is also known as "Aunt Sugar" by her followers. She is an expert in family relationships and believes that the lack of trust within the family is contributing to the breakdown of the family today. Dr. Steinberg works with family members to create trust within the family and to center home life in the everyday world. Secrets and lies can destroy a family from the inside out. Dr. Steinberg believes that there are no good lies and likes to say that a "secret is only a secret when known by two people; one of whom is dead". Secrets always rise to the top; they never stay hidden and when they do surface they usually cause irreparable harm. Secrets and lies destroy more than just the people who tell/hide them.

Dr. Steinberg has come to her knowledge through schooling as well as practical knowledge. Growing up in the South in the 50's and 60's she experienced daily the secrets and lies that a family will tell and perpetuate to make things seem alright within a family. Her concentration in discovering the truth and removing toxic people from a person's life is exclusively "Aunt Sugar."

Toxic Families is a subject upon which I am an expert and that is a sad fact. It doesn't have anything to do with time spent sloughing through psychology or sociology courses or spent learning to be a life counselor. My particular expertise is highlighted by multiple examples in my own life. This is the time of the year when having a toxic family hurts more than most any other. Even the most balanced family can have spats or falling outs but a toxic one takes even the smallest slight to the extreme.

Did you ever hear the old phrase "What you don't know can't hurt you"? Well, it can. In fact, family secrets can destroy your life in more ways than one. There is usually one person who is the "keeper of the secrets". That person is privileged to all the things that are unsavory about the family and usually decides who gets to know about them and when. Secrets are passed down through a family much like a family recipe. The eldest person gets the privilege of the power.
