A question is a sentence that solicits for information. A question has a corresponding answer or set of answers. In life, one must be able to ask themselves vital questions pertaining to life and destiny. This is a questionnaire that you carry throughout life which acts as a guideline or compass on how your life must run. Many people shy away from these vital questions which require introspection, looking at life in retrospect and evaluating what the future holds. Whether you like it or not, one day you would have to answer the questions. Some leave it until too late to begin pondering on them. When you approach the grave (which you will), you should not be asking yourself about destiny. You should be looking back at a life well lived, days well spent, places visited, lifestyle you enjoyed and lives you touched and the legacy you are leaving behind. I will assist you to improve the quality of your life today by explaining what each question means and how it impacts on your day to day activity. Your Questionnaire 1. Who am I? - This is a question of identity. Obviously part of your answer mentions your name and family you were born into. It also mentions which country you are from. Over and above these wonderful answers, you need to look into your own character as that forms the bulk of this answer. Your character shapes your identity and how people know you as. Your character, good or bad, is what people use to describe you when they forget your name e.g. "This girl who is well mannered always smiling and very humble or the tall thief who is a bold bully". Who are really are you? 2. Where am I? - This may speak of position in the structures or physical place. Most importantly, it speaks of present realities against desired aspirations. It seeks to compare what one has always aspired to do against where they today. It is a vital to ask this question as you get to see if you deviated from how you have always envisioned your life to be. At the point of realization, you must rejoice because you still have time and chance to correct the direction your life has taken or initiate mobility where stagnation has occurred. When you find your answer to this question pointing to the fact that you are in a pit , prison or wilde ess you must think of ways out of that mode. These maybe states of the mind not physical. Pit of confusion, prison of limitations and wilde ess of despair. Get out of negative mental states and think of ways to better your life. 3. Where am I coming from? - This speaks of historical activity. These are reflections and recollections or viewing of life in perspective. Sometimes it takes long to assimilate present realities and plan the future unless you have a firm grip and can come to terms with the things that happened in times past. This is not meant to remind you of the pain and gory moments of your life but to show you how far you have come on the road to pursue greatness. Your background has no hold on who you can be today but it is a good CV to teach you how not to do the mistakes you did in the past and how to repackage your previous successes and relaunch at another level. Victories in times past are reference points that you can check on as you face present challenges. Try to focus on historical victories and achievements not the pitfalls and negative moments. 4. Why am I here? - This is a question of purpose. When you can confidently mention why you occupy space and use the resource called life then you are in a better position to live a fulfilled life. There is always something you are good at that no one else does better. Take time to identify what your unique purpose and mandate is. For some it is bring hope to others, for some it is creating order out of confusion, for some it is lifting others to greatness through education etc. You have abilities that you must not disregard. You need to get rid of the mentality that exalts University education as the only pinnacle of purpose. You can be a sportsmen or sport woman and be paid well for it too. Parents, do your children a favor, allow them to decide what fulfills them and what they want to do with their lives. I have many examples of parents who forced children into Law School only for the child to graduate and start another 6 years of medicine. Believe me, I am one such testimony where my dad wanted me to be a teacher to solve an imminent problem when in actual fact I knew I was born to inspire others to greatness. I used that little bit of education to place myself where I feel I am supposed to be. 5. What am I doing? - This speaks of present activity in relation to purpose. Are you studying, are you working, are you merely stagnant waiting for life to happen to you. What you are doing today has a bearing on how the outcome of your life will be. If you follow the wind, the result will have windy characteristics. If you follow the crowd, you will be lost in the commotion of mob psychology. Do things that are in line with where you see yourself in the future. When I wake up, I would rather make my day better by working on plans and activities that organize the rest of my day. You just don’t do things as they come but you deliberately make your day and life fruitful. You have no right doing anything “just to pass time”. Time lost can never be purchased back or claimed legally from anywhere. When you decide to do anything, ask yourself if it is not another time filler and resource waster 6. Where am I going? - This is a destiny question. It does not matter where you could find yourself now. Your history does not really count. This is what I would classify as an important question. It helps you to make good use of the time left in your life. You need vision so that you see where you are going. This may not necessarily refer to physical eyes but mental picture of future reality. You have time to create a better tomorrow. The temptation to stay in a pit of reflections and recollection is very high. It is easy to have a pity party. Everyone gets to know the stupid things you did. What use is that billboard of negative history in relation to future possibilities. 7. How do I get there? - This now speaks of plan, road map and compass. It answers the strategy quest. You can have a good mental picture but it remains a nice wallpaper not worth mentioning unless you have strategy of accomplishing the goals and objectives. The how put wheels to the vision. It gives you step by step how everything will roll-out. E.g If you mental picture is “I see myself wealthy, running businesses across nations”. How to get there may encompass such strategy as “Enroll in Business School, Invest the funds I have on stock exchange, travel to see how other nations are structured and governed”. You are writing the “hows” which are not pies in the sky but the exact practical action plans that will bring you mental picture to bear. 8. When will I get there? - This is a question relating to time-frames and seasons. This can be part of the plan mentioned in 6 above. It is easy to mention a 5 or 10 year plan. How many find it easy to mention a 100 year plan? Does it sound insurmountable and impossible? You must be able to tell what the third generation after you will be like in terms of legacy you are leaving. I must say that for me this is also work in progress. I know things in my life that will take 2 years, 5 years and 10 years. I know of a Pastor personally who can intricately pan the whole scope of his legacy. This is achievable as long as you decide to do it. It is very sad how many influential people’s legacies are forgotten 2 years after the death. Your legacy must be clearly planned such that no one can stand in the way of its roll-out based on your plan on how long it would take for things to happen. 9. What does it take to get there? - This is a question of resource mobilization and resource allocation. How much money will you require at every stage of your plan. What material is necessary. What mental property and ability do you need to create or borrow in the process. A project is never practical just because it has nice annotations and words but because the actions are accompanied by the resource needs. It must work on paper first before you start rolling it out. You don’t need a degree in Finance to formulate a projection of expenditure over the period you are rolling out your vision. Just record your major costs at each milestone and on some cases these costs recur so you simply copy them down. Money will answer a number of questions you have in the vision roll-out. The lack of it should not hinder you though from doing the initial steps with the little you have. Money is usually glued to vision though it does not always reflect as cleared all the time. It is interesting how you always have provision enough for the phase you are working on e.g. if in college, tuition is paid etc but not necessarily a car. When you are planning on getting married, the money just falls in place as you speak where you need it. 10. Who will help me get there? - This speaks of human resources. You should not hang your total trust on who goes with you as people also have their visions to chase. Different people can help you at various stages but you can not delegate or relegate your responsibility totally. Which mentors do you have that can aide you and counsel you at the various stages. Believe me, you need someone to urge you on, some whom you can account to, someone who can challenge you to greatness and make sure you do things in line with the good life you have been promising yourself. There are those who will go with you all the way such as spouses and children but realize that other parties will definitely come and go in each season. Learn the law of release, to let go so that the new human resources can come.
