Time management strategies aren’t just about overcoming procrastination, creating schedules, and checking tasks off your To Do List. In fact, time management is an approach to tasks and time choices that can be beneficial in ANY area of your life. From the loftiest questions of life’s meaning, to the most mundane of daily tasks, as you hone your time management skills, everything changes for the better!
Today I want to look at how 3 specific time management strategies can help you enjoy Twitter more AND achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself on Twitter. Whether you enjoy this social-networking and information-sharing venue for purely social reasons … or are using it as part of your business/marketing plan, many of the challenges and benefits that Twitter presents are the same.
Using these 3 tips you will be able to use Twitter without having it eat up too much of your time … while also enhancing your effectiveness. And here’s a bonus thought to keep in mind: When you start with clarity and add focus, you're halfway there!
So, to use Twitter with pleasure – and open the door to profit -- start with these 3 fundamental Twitter time management tips:
1.
Relationships Are the Rule: Twitter is about connecting and building relationships, not selling!
Even though Twitter doesn’t have strict “rules” per se, you will save both your time and your standing in the Twitterverse by observing its social mores.
You can definitely use Twitter to help connect with people and build a client and customer base. Your pathway to this goal is through cultivating relationships over time. Consider it a careful (and interesting) investment of your on-line moments.
You will find yourself drawn to some people’s tweets. That’s how it works. Follow them, get to know them … and perhaps down the road you’ll have opportunities to collaborate.
Once you establish yourself as an expert in your niche, you will also find people reaching out to you, looking to tap your expertise or invite your participation in exciting projects
So, how can you manage the dual tasks of building relationships and getting the word out about yourself and your business?
2.
Cultivate your keywords: To make the most of your time, make the most of your tools.
Consciously consider your keywords, and update them as needed. Explore sites that provide up-to-date statistics on how frequently certain words and phrases are typed into search engines.
If someone searches Twitter for one of the keywords in your niche, you want to be sure that your name is one of the ones that comes up! Make a list of keywords, keep them handy when you're Tweeting, and use them consistently.
Using hashtags is another way to make it easier for people to find you on Twitter. Accessibility is what you are aiming for.
3.
Tweet and Retweet relevance to your niche: Sharing information on Twitter is enormously efficient, and it is a win/win situation.
If you have toiled for hours in other venues, trying to keep everything original and proprietary, Twitter offers you a very refreshing change of pace! When you are Tweeting, think of yourself as working from a place of abundance.
Sharing is a practice that strengthens your Twitter relationships. This turns many market models on their heads … as they are often based on saving or hoarding something that is scarce. On Twitter, the more information is shared, the higher its value.
It's fine to share information that doesn't relate directly to your niche, too. Work to keep it interesting and fresh. And share personal tidbits as you are comfortable doing so. This enhances connection and makes you 3-dimensional and accessible … real, if you will!
BONUS TIP: This one is very important! Prior to opening up Twitter to work on-line, it’s important to decide how much time you can comfortably spend on your upcoming session. Consider backing up your resolve with a timer, maybe placed in another room!
If you don’t set time boundaries for yourself, you can easily find yourself “Lost in the Twitterverse.” However, by allowing yourself to dip into Twitter to observe the flow of ideas, a bit at a time, you will intuitively develop a sense of what outreaches are genuinely rewarding to you.
