3 Top Eczema Natural Treatment Options
Written by Evelyn Lim
If you are looking for an eczema natural treatment to help reduce your itchy symptoms, then there are several options that you can consider. Typically, steroids are applied for relief; however, as you well know, they should not be used for an extended time period. Over time, they can produce side effects, such as causing your skin skin to “thin” out, opening yourself to more skin infections. An eczema natural treatment can act as a complementary measure or can be used on its own, in the case of mild eczema or if you are already in some control of your eczema. Whatever it is, you should work out a suitable eczema treatment plan together with your physician.
Eczema Natural Treatment #1: Oatmeal Bath.
An effective eczema natural treatment is an oatmeal bath. This type of bath is suitable for both adults and even kids. It is soothing to dry skin. It may sound strange but oatmeal is excellent for calming inflamed skin that you just want to scratch off your body.
To make an oatmeal bath, simply purchase porridge (such as Quaker) oats from the supermarket and add them to a lukewarm bath. A cup or two should normally be sufficient. However, you may want to add more oats and water, if you are itching a lot. If you do not wish to make your own oatmeal bath, Aveeno sells one that is excellent for managing that eczema itch.
Eczema Natural Treatment #2: Herbal Remedies.
Here is a home recipe if your eczema is mild. Mix these ingredients together in a bowl- one-teaspoon of comfrey root, one-teaspoon of white oak bark, one-teaspoon of slippery elm bark and two cups of water. Next, boil the concoction for thirty-five minutes, allow it to cool and then wash the affected areas of your skin with it. Although it is likely that you may not cure your eczema completely, a herbal eczema natural treatment is great option as compared to using doses of steroids. Obviously, you should check with your physician first before using any herbs.
Eczema Natural Treatment #2: Moisturization.
If you have eczema, you are likely to suffer from extremely dry skin. You are prone to increased levels of itching with particularly dry skin. Hence, it is important that you keep your skin well hydrated. This means you should always keep your skin moisturized. Do this at least twice a day, and more often if your skin is extremely dry and scaly.
The best type of moisturizer for an eczema sufferer appears to be an emollient. An emollient is simply a moisturizer that is oilier in its consistency compared to a regular moisturizing cream or lotion.
Emollient can also come in the form of emollient oils, which can be easily added to baths or applied to the body while you are in the shower. During summer, a good tip for you is to keep your emollient in the refrigerator; it feels cool on your skin when you apply it on.
Eczema Natural Treatment #3: Vitamin E.
Vitamin E is an excellent eczema natural treatment. You can apply Vitamin E moisturizers or ensure that you get it in your diet. Consume natural sources of vitami
E such as vitamin rich plant leaves, vegetable oils (wheat germ, sunflower, safflower, canola, soybean, cottonseed, and corn oil), unprocessed grains and nuts.
