This blog offers information that I’ve learned from my parrot, Shakespeare. Shaky (short for Shakespeare), has been with me for some thirty years now. Amongst the many lessons he taught me, one of my favorites is his demonstration of how to Aspire Higher by setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals. Shaky is a confident bird, not shy and very direct about getting what he wants. He knows how to get results without wasting a lot of time. I have learned to use his S.M.A.R.T. strategy to do the things I need to do in order to make my dreams come true. And now, over the next five blogs, I am going to share this secret with you. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for Shaky’s five-step process of right living:

Simple ... Meaningful … Action … Responsible … Tuned in

Day One: Simple

Today, we are going to look at the first step - Simple.

What do you want? State it simply. Seven words max. When Shakespeare wants a carrot, he says, “A carrot please.” He repeats it again and again. There’s no mistaking who wants a carrot. Shaky! There’s no confusion about what he wants. He doesn’t want an apple. He doesn’t want celery. The mind best absorbs a command given in three to seven words. Don’t boggle the mind. So you want to make a lot of money? How much? State it simply. “I have one million dollars.” Repeat it. Let complicated thinking come to an end, and powerful thinking will begin. Powerful thinking is simple. The subconscious always thinks in simple terms and in the present tense, so speak to it that way.
