For years women have lamented over the fact that it is harder for them to lose weight than men. While many scoffed at this idea women everywhere swore it was a fact and it turns out they were right. Men and women are similar in a lot of ways, but it turns out our differences play a key role when it comes to losing weight. Don't despair though: along with these reasons are ways to fight them so you can achieve your weight loss goals. Here are the 7 reasons it is harder for women to lose weight than men and how you can fight it:
1. Testosteroner
Although men and women both have testosterone men have it in a much higher amount, which is why they also have more muscle. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is, as muscle is the key to burning fat and calories. While you can't increase your testosterone levels you CAN increase muscle by lifting more weights. The added muscle will have you burning more calories in no time.
2. Food Choicesr
It sounds cliched but studies show women eat sweets more than men, who seem to prefer more savory foods. Sweets, unfortunately, are full of sugars and processed, adding tons of calories to your diet. A hoke cooked meal is lower in calories and fat, making t easier to burn off. You don't have to give up dessert, but limit it to once or twice a week.
3. Emotional Eatingr
Men and women deal with stress differently: men tend to go do something physical while many women turn to food. Emotional eating can quickly sabotage a diet because we tend to eat fatty, sweet foods like potato chips or ice cream. What;s worse, since we are upset we lose track of how much we're eating, which means taking in way more calories than you should. As an added stress component you often feel guilty after you pig out, continuing the cycle. Next time you are upset take a page from the guys and go for a brisk walk or jog: the endorphin will calm you and have you feeling better and the best part is you won't feel guilty after you run.
4. Wearing the Chef's Hatr
If you are he one who preps and coos meals for your family you can unknowingly be eating extra calories. When you cook you have to taste the food: this may happen several times while making a meal, adding unnecessary calories. Women tend to cook more than men, so if you are he chef, have your man or kids taste what you are making to save you from eating too many calories.
5. Not Keeping Focusedr
Women are great at multitasking, but not when it comes to dieting during our periods. We have a habit of letting our hormones throw us off course. Not only do we eat wrong, but we often feel crampy and avoid exercise as well Men don't have this problem, but we can combat this by adopting their no-nonsense approach to weight loss. Having fresh veggies to snack on will help keep you on track no mater what time of the month it is. Eating right will also cut down on bloating and have you feeling more energized.
6. Not Taking Me Timer
As a woman we have a tendency to take care of everyone but us. As a result we often skip the gym to tend to our kids or eat fattening foods to please the rest of the family. Make sure you stick to your gym routine: don't make excuses. More importantly though, eat right, even if your family doesn't like it. They will eventually cone around: besides, everyone should eat right to promote better health.
7. Not Managing Stress Properlyr
Women often internalize problems, which can add to stress levels, causing weight gain due to increases hormones. We have a tendency to hold onto grudges and linger over problems, whereas men confront their issues and move on. A great way to manage stress is to take up yoga or meditate. Either one of these activities will force you to quiet your mind, allowing the tension to leave your body and reduce hormone levels. In addition to getting your metabolism back on track lower stress levels will reduce your tendency to eat more.
By making these small changes in your life you can fine tune your weight loss regimen and lose weight just as efficiently as men do. You will see results in a more timely manner and feel better about your overall health, so you will look as good as you feel.
