New research may indicate that people who have higher levels of irritability or anger in response to mental stress may have a reduced oxygen supply to the heart. The findings suggest that anger may be a risk factor for heart disease and heart attacks.
Given these findings, it is important to release feelings of anger whenever possible. One way is by taking in deep breathes and focusing on your breath. Using a jou
al to write about positive things in your life to change your thoughts is another.
There is a simple exercise that you can do whenever you are feeling angry. You can do this in a mirror or with another person. This exercise may seem silly at first, but it actually involves many areas of your body. In the end, you cannot help but laugh and forget about your anger.
Initially, you may want to do this in front of a mirror. Raise one arm up as you step forward with your foot that's on the same side as your arm. As you are doing this, let out a loud "AH" as your arm comes down. Do the same with the other foot and leg. Do this several times at least or until you start laughing and feel your anger disappearing. It's much more fun when done with a partner. Works well with children as well.
What this is doing is getting your mind off of what you are angry about and involves a grounding effect as you are using your legs, which involves the root chakra. The physical motion of coming down with your arm and using your voice to vocalize helps to release those negative emotions. Using laughter to heal has tremendous benefits in itself.
Good luck. I would love to hear your feedback after you've tried this. I've used it for many seminars and in a matter of a few minutes, the whole room is full of laughter.
