Why attend anger management classes? As common an emotion as anger is, some people actually find it challenging to control anger-related outbursts. This often leads to a degradation of existing relationships while eliminating the possibility of creating new ones. People who have issues controlling their anger can attend anger management classes designed to help them understand the cause of their outbursts, recognize triggers, and control their emotions during frustrating or upsetting situations. Their main objective is to help individuals understand and control their reactions before the onset of anger and during and actual episode. This empowers them to find more appropriate ways of dealing with their anger management problems and recognize their own instigators of anger.

There are mainly two types of anger management classes that people can take advantage of while trying to deal with their anger issues. The first is the group class environment which can typically have up to a dozen people in attendance at any one time. These classes are supervised and led by instructors, allowing participants to vent out their frustrations and providing an outlet that they would otherwise be too embarrassed or afraid to look for in a friend or family member. In addition to individuals who are trying to repair relationships or prevent their angry outbursts from alienating any form of social life they might have, businesses, schools, and other kinds of institutions can make use of anger management classes to prevent angry outbursts in the workplace or study environment. Even prisons use anger control classes for the purpose of rehabilitating violent criminals. The other type of anger course is one that can be taken online, usually in the comfort of your own home. People can take advantage of online video lectures and web-based tools for training. This is especially useful for people who can't afford the typical class-based lecture group or for those who are too busy to take too much time off from their daily routines. Web-based training and lectures can also be a stepping stone for group-based therapy if recommended.

The most important benefit of taking anger management classes is the restructuring of a person's cognitive processes during confrontational, frustrating, or upsetting situations. In order to calm aggression and anger, an instructor or web-based training program can teach relaxation techniques and instruct an individual on how to think in certain situations. Other topics can include situational problem solving, communication skills, and changing an environment that triggers anger. Because angry outbursts can result in a variety of negative outcomes, there are also some secondary effects that can even impact a person's health. Individuals that aren't as prone to angry or confrontational outbursts are less likely to experience adverse health problems such as high blood pressure, headaches, digestive challenges or sleeping disorders. One can always find an excuse to avoid taking anger management classes, but doing so may come at a very high cost.

Think about an Attachment and we may experience a nice warm-fuzzy feeling. We are of course attached to our family, our homes, our relationships, money, our beautiful stuff, and so forth. Think about an Aversion and what happens – instantly we are facing some resistance. If you are paying attention you’ll instantly notice a clutch indicating that there is something needing our attention. Larry Crane and the staff refer to “the clutch” as a pocket of negativity, ringing like a doorbell to get our attention.

Although uncontrolled anger can be quite costly, when channeled properly anger can also be very positive. Among other things, anger can motivate us to work harder to accomplish our goals. This could mean playing harder on the defensive end in a basketball game, studying longer for an exam, or putting in more time when learning to play an instrument. Anger can sometimes lead to newer, higher level goals, possibly fueled by the desire to prove others wrong.
