Are You Divergent?

Within the last week, I've had the opportunity to see the movie "Divergent" not once but twice due to the fact that the movie (and book) is all the rage with girls and my daughter is no exception. It's your typical good versus evil plot but the twist is a young woman named "Tris" who's confident, clever and in the end fights for what she believes in and saves the day.
What does this have to do with women and entrepreneurship? I'm getting there. : -) In the story, each member of the society takes a test and from the results of the test, the member has to choose from five structured and narrowly defined categories to live in for the rest of their lives. In essence, you become labeled for life.
My daughter begged me to take the "test." I did and of course, I couldn't choose. I explained to Jenna that it's impossible for me to say I'm only one thing. I have parts of me that fit into each one of the five categories (honest, peaceful, intelligent, selfless and bold) which means I'm... divergent. I could see her body kind of relax. She, too, couldn't be defined by one word.
I'm willing to bet that you are a woman who enjoys a variety of options in your life. You don't fit into a box. You can't be "labeled." Entrepreneurs are a different breed and I mean that in a good way. We think differently and act differently. We adapt to change and crave new creative ways of being and thinking.
This can sometimes be challenging for those around you. They don't understand you and your wild and crazy ideas. Surround yourself with people who champion your uniqueness and your love of risk, change and creative thinking. Celebrate who you are and allow your special gifts and talents to shine.
Be brave.
