Asking Good Questions To Increase Satisfaction In Work, Relationships And PlaynBy
Bill Cottringe
n Sometimes real success involves flip-flopping the traditional sequence in which we approach things. Then we end up wondering why something doesn’t feel quite right, like the tail seems to be wagging the dog or the cart is before the horse so to speak. Such is the case with questions and answers. We normally use our brainpower to search for and uncover clever answers to be successful, rather than to come up with the right questions that need to be asked to open the doors widest to success. Here are a few good questions that you can consider asking (or be inspired to come up with your own) that will increase your satisfaction in three important areas of life—Work, Relationships and Play:
WORK:
- Am I following my true passion in the work I do?
- Do I have a handle on performing my best at work and being most productive?
- What is my biggest work fault of mine that holds me back most?
- How could I be a better team player without sacrificing my individuality?
- Do I spend most of my time looking in the mirror or through the window?
- How do I waste or mismanage my time at work?
- Do I have a mentor to help me grow and improve my work skills?
- What little but powerful enjoyments am I missing out on at work?
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Have I forgotten why I chose to be with this person?
- Am I doing everything I can do to support my partner during hard times?
- What is the main purpose of us being together?
- What one bad habit do I have that keeps our relationship from being a “thriving” one?
- How do I let past failures (or successes) get in the way of our relationship now?
- Do I express myself enough in the type of love language that pleases my partner most?
- Where do I really believe this relationship is headed and how does that seem to affect where we presently are?
- Do I deal with conflict in the most assertive way or is there room for improvement?
PLAY
- How can I make my work more play-like?
- What do I really enjoy doing most, which I am actually doing least?
- What moments of “real wealth” that are actually free, am I not taking advantage of?
- Do I need to work more on trying to see real beauty and meaning in “ugly” or ordinary things?
- Do I set and keep a healthy balance between work and play time?
- Do I schedule myself enough alone time?
- Am I indulging enough in exploring creative pursuits or making too many excuses?
- Are my play activities too distressful or are they working as intended to de-stress me?
Think about some good questions you can begin to ask that will help you to know what to focus on in order to increase your satisfaction in three important areas of your life—work, relationships and play. Asking the right questions will usually lead to finding better answers, which always increase success and happiness.n n nn
