Get flexible with Thai Yoga Massage
Written by Monika Bar
You want to be healthy. You want to be flexible and regain your mobility. You need something that will give you the energy you need and get rid of all your muscle pain, your stress and your tension.
Thai Yoga Massage can do all that and more.
Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing arts system that is believed to have been developed by a friend and a contemporary of Buddha. This system is based in Ayurvedic Medicine, Buddhist spiritual practice, and Yoga, and it combines meditation, rhytmic acupressure, and deep assisted stretches to open, exercise and tone all the systems of your body.
The massage was originally practiced in the Buddhist temples and the practitioner approached their job as an extension of their spiritual practice, bringing the Buddhist teachings of unconditional love and compassion to their sessions and applying this loving kindness energy to the recipient. Properly trained practitioners today continue this tradition, working with full awa
ess, mindfulnes and concentration.
How can that help you?
When you go for a Thai Yoga Massage treatment you can expect several things as a result. Physically, your body will immediately start to become more flexible; your muscle will stop aching (after all it's still a massage); your posture will improve; and your bones will re-align. Mentally, you will feel centered and more at peace, even mildly euphoric at the end of the session. At the same time, you will feel like you are filled with energy, vital, and ready to take on anything.
I have seen great changes in both my clients and myself in the course of our Thai Yoga Massage sessions. This healing art works to not only detoxify your body, but to clear energy blockages, and release emotions.
Most of my clients report improved health and mobility. But that's a given; that's what they came to me for in the first place. But what they also notice is how much more peaceful they are, more self-confident and happy. Their self-esteem goes up, as does their willpower, allowing them to begin and stick to exercise plans and healthy food if they choose to do so.
However, finding a good Thai Yoga Massage practitioner is not exactly easy if you don't happen to live in Thailand. There are schools that teach it in the States and the best thing to do is to find them, look at what they teach, and ask them to recommend a graduate in your area. Look in your local health food stores, health centers, or yoga studios for leaflets advertising Thai Massage practitioners. Bear in mind however, that this massage wasn't even taught to Westerners until the 1980's, so it will take a little more time for it to achieve the popularity of Aromatherapy or Reflexology.
And even when you find a practitioner, be careful. Ask what school they went to, how long the course was, what it included (Anatomy? Energy work?), and if they practice any other healing modalities. You do not want someone with a weekend workshop certificate putting you into Yoga postures! Thankfully, most practitioners are well-trained and know what they're doing, but it's always better to check their qualifications first.
And when you do find a good practitioner, enjoy! And try to touch your fingers to the floor again after the treatment - I guarantee it will go a lot better.
