Days are not just made up of mornings, afte
oons and evenings. They are moments of time in our lives that we choose to do certain things. We work, we spend time with our family and friends, we worship. These moments in time are not to be taken advantage of. Each thing we do is something we can do intentionally or we can just do it to get it out of the way.
If we rush through the moment, we can’t take time to see if we helped someone, we can’t take time to see if we have communicated or shared what we needed to, we can’t really enjoy the process. We should think about everything we do as we are doing it and do it completely. The process is where the fulfillment comes from. To enjoy the process, we need to be in the moment.
Think about yesterday. What exactly did we do all day? Did we rush through the morning to get to work and get started? Did we go through lunch hurriedly and then watch the clock until it was time to go home? Did we take time when we traveled home to enjoy the process? At home, did we spend hours watching television, searching the Internet or do something mindlessly until we went to bed? How many hours did we brood over the past or did we spend upset about something?
Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 “Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.”
Our actions need to be on purpose. We need to take every moment doing each thing intentionally asking God if what we are doing is something He wants us to do. We need to ask Him to show us ways to enjoy the process. We need to stay busy for God so that we aren’t wishing that things were different but so that we are making a difference. We need to ask God to help us divide our days into moments of time and enjoy each moment as if it were our last.
Moments occur when we stop to realize what we are doing. When we think about where we are, what we are doing and how that is helping others. Moments occur when we look around and see what all God has provided for us. When we take time to be grateful for what we have. Moments occur when we think about the good in the situation rather than trying to just get through it.
From each moment there is something we can learn. From each moment there is something we can enjoy. From each moment there is a story we can create. Moments create experiences. Experiences are made to share. We can learn from our experiences, share them with others and learn about each other. We need to allow God in our moment so He can really make a difference.
There is so much more to the day than just the morning, the afte
oon and the evening. There is the moment. The moment is where we all should live. Forget about what we have done and what we have to do. Use this moment to smile, to inspire others and to make a difference. Live in the moment and each moment will make up our lifetime.
“We are always getting ready to live but never living.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
