To be a leader means you should be brave and fearless, this however is easier said than done. After all, everyone has their own set of fears and leaders are no different. Despite your existing fears however, there are ways of becoming a fearless leader and a good one at that. The very first thing that you can do to become a fearless leader is to acknowledge your fears. It is a good idea to keep a journal of your fears and be honest in recording the fears that you think may affect your leadership abilities.

Do any of the following statements describe you? If so, it may be time to reconsider your career path. 1. You would switch careers in a heartbeat if money wasnât a factor. If you would switch careers if you knew that you would make enough money, then something inside you knows that youâre meant to be doing something else. There is something I like to call the âyeah butâ syndrome. Hereâs what I mean. âWould I like to have a more fulfilling job?â âYeah but I won
Have you ever seen a couple and thought, "How did he get her?" or vice versa? Obviously, the person deemed less physically attractive knew how to sell his/her other great qualities to compensate for what he/she lacked in the looks department. You've also probably known someone who seems to have it allâgood looks, charm, intelligence, etc.âyet sits at home dateless on Saturday nights. At some point in our lives, all of us come to ask ourselves some deep questions, such as: What is the meaning of Life? What is Love? Why do people watch Reality TV? In my book 'Passion Pays: How to make a living from your passions… and change the world too', I pose another important question: What is work really about?
Remember Bruce Lee? The name Bruce Lee commands respect and admiration from all over the world. The diminutive man, who stood 1.73 meters tall and weighed less than 65 kilograms, is considered by many as the greatest martial artist of the 20th century. His dynamic on-screen style and stunts impressed fans from all walks of life, and he became one of the most enduring screen icons in the history of motion pictures. He was a hero to many young boys. In the 1970’s young men from across the world wanted to be Bruce Lee. He worked hard. He trained hard.
Relationship building is one of the four keys to career success. As a career success coach, I am always reminding my clients that they must build strong, long lasting mutually beneficial relationships with the important people in their lives. Unfortunately, no human relationship is without conflict. That's why you have to become adept at resolving conflict positively. I know a little bit about conflict resolution. It was the topic of my dissertation at Harvard.
Here are 10 ways to ensure your voice sounds interesting when presenting: 1. Your starting point should always be your posture and your breathing. A poor posture will prevent you from breathing effectively and without sufficient breath your voice will have no power and will lose its ability to vary its pace, tone and volume. 2. Create opportunities for you to breathe deeply as often as you can in your presentation. Certainly, you should take some deep breaths at the beginning of your presentation (as you gain eye contact with your audience and smile at them). 3.

When I left corporate America several years ago to strike out on my own I was so happy to leave behind corporate greed and lack of loyalty. I’d come of age as a professional in the 1990’s—the era of rightsizing, downsizing and reengineering. And I’d personally handled the layoff or reorganization of over 1000 people.
There is more attitude around than the 'traditional' positive / negative attitude. This article will expose you to the other kind of attitude. Before you can run you must learn how to walk. Once you establish your foundation as a solid walker you can then pursue your dream of running. This simple analogy can also be applied to achieving your life goals. If your dream is to own a 60-foot yacht or a Ferrari Spider you will first need to accomplish some basic prerequisites. If you choose to ignore the initial steps to achieving your dreams you will likely end up falling short as you reach for the sky and end up with a handful of nothing.

You dread going to work. Every morning you drag yourself out of bed. It is not that the body is weak but the mind is not willing. Most of us know the feeling of dreading to go to work. If not for a long period of time, at least at some point of your career you would have felt that way. Is there a way of overcoming the feeling everyday? I am not sure if I have the absolute solutions, but you can try some of these strategies that I have personally used in my years of experience. 1. Dominant Thoughts
In Arizona alone, the number of arrests for driving under the influence totaled 14,000 in the past 12 months, even higher than the 10,500 the previous year, according to DUI statistics reported by the Arizona Governor’s Office. For Arizona job seekers as well as any job seeker who has a DUI on their record, when to tell a future employer during the job interview process can be a tricky situation.

If I say the word “investment”, what comes up for you? For some, it brings images of property, money, men or women in suits or graphs. For others, it could be words such as risk, loss & gain, strategy, growth or numbers.
You might not believe this, but Iâve worked for six companies in the last six years. Some of you might respond, âYou canât keep a job, huh, Charlie?â You might be right, and thatâs why Iâm self-employed now. Honestly, itâs not something that Iâm proud of, and I somewhat rationalize two things: I worked in technology where itâs very common to have upheaval and lots of change, especially in tech sales, and two: three of the six were âhorses shot out from und
Say that you've been looking at a new prospective employer for quite a while. You're ready to apply, because this company has, quite simply, everything you've ever wanted. However, there’s only one problem, the company is your employer’s direct competition. This can seem like a problematic venture, but other than in very specific circumstances, you're entitled to the opportunity to look for a job with a competitor. But just to make sure that you approach the situation approp
Every time I share my analogy of tenure to the TV show Survivor™ faculty colleagues start laughing, nodding and poking each other like school children. Why do they react this way? Because the comparison strikes home so squarely and exposes the extreme pressure, high costs and yes, some, absurd, but necessary, strategies to successfully navigate the tenure process.

It can be a truly rewarding task for any person to guide others through life. At the same time it can be a daunting challenge. The person who has taken on the role of guide needs to walk a very fine line. On one hand the person must be strong enough to be able to reprimand the follower when that person ignores advice or strays from the path. On the other hand, it is also his responsibility to allow the follower to stray.
Public speaking is a challenge in itself, let alone being effective at it. However, if you are going to make a speech you should strive to make it an effective one. In London's Hyde Park you can just get upnand speak about any subject you wish! Public speaking is both an art and a science. ...
A while back I wrote about a book called The Luck Factor by Richard Wiseman who claims that you can learn to be lucky. In fact, Dr. Wiseman even lists five steps for learning to be lucky. First, don't assume there is nothing you can do about any situation. Make the decision to take control. Second, do something now. Third, make a list of various options. Be creative. Brainstorm. Come up with as many ideas as you can. Fourth, decide how you will move forward. Consider every possible alternative. Fifth, take action.
This is my first article for SelfGrowth.com since I became the Official Guide for Career Development. In this article I will be sharing the ideas on career and life success. They are based on the advice I provide my coaching clients and my Common Sense Success System (http://www.Commo SenseSuccessSystem.com/freedvdoffer).
It takes all kinds of people to make up the world we live in. In life, we have the opportunity to meet many people. Some of them we find are too difficult to deal with. These are the people we end up not liking and we try and avoid them as much as possible. Keeping well away from them might be the right thing to do. But sometimes there are situations where it is impossible to avoid them. Happy and friendly people have the ability to uplift people and should there be any kind of conflict the situation can easily be worked through.
Job Interviews are tricky. They can go wrong in the fraction of a second. Many people lose the contention for jobs even before introducing themselves. During an interview, your every move is under observation, so it is vital to play safe! Following silly mistakes during an interview are made again and again. Inappropriate Attire
I am currently working on a re-branding initiative with an organization. Because we are working with very short timelines with a large amount of work to be completed, a steering committee with decision making authority was put into place to shepherd the process. This group is responsible for developing and implementing strategies. To ensure that this group doesn’t implement tactics that are not congruent with the needs of the target market, an advisory panel was also put into place to obtain feedback and input before moving forward with implementation.
The other day, I came across a succinct statement on goal setting and goal achievement from Denis Waitely… "The secret to productive goal setting is in establishing clearly defined goals, writing them down and then focusing on them several times a day with words, pictures and emotions as if we've already achieved them." I really like what Denis has to say. Let's break it down. 1. Your goals need to be clear. 2. Your goals need to be written. 3. Your need to focus on your goals several times a day. 4. You need to visualize yourself achieving your goals.

If you want to become self confident, you need to do three things: 1) become an optimist; 2) face your fears and deal with them; and 3) surround yourself with positive people. Today, I'd like to focus on fear -- that uncomfortable feeling that prevents you from taking the action necessary to get what you want in life. What scares you? What have you done to overcome this fear? For many years, I would tell people that I really wanted to start a consulting business. Yet I never seemed to actually start it.
Part time jobs offer great facilities to both the employers and employees and this also help them to get the benefits through it. People from different sector take up these jobs so as to ensure that they gain good amount of money and experience. Jobs are the requirement of modern generation, they want to be independent and feel secure about their future. For them study and work both are necessary and they cannot afford to lose one for the other. In such cases, they prefer to
The Symbiotic Relationship Between Sales and Marketing Sales and marketing need each other; they are married. Though, in this case, a divorce wouldn't mean a 50/50 split, it would probably mean a business. However, I have always found it ironic that marketing and sales are two totally separate divisions; this is most prominent in some mid-size and larger companies. One would have to ask themselves, why? This is an important question which often needs answering.
I chose November 4 as Use Your Common Sense Day because it is Will Rogers' birthday. Will was a great American humorist who was famous for saying, "Common sense ain't all that common." We are all born with five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. These senses help us navigate our way through the world.
I'm sitting here writing this in my Nike jogging pants and Nike T-Shirt, socks and tennis shoes. No kidding, I've got that Nike Swoosh all over me. It's crazy how we consciously and subconsciously surround ourselves with those trusted names, products, services and brands. Branding has gone from corporate PR, to Hollywood with the likes of Oprah, Martha (and yes, Paris), and now to Main Street. Personal Branding is changing the way we manage our careers and businesses. You already have a brand?
If you spend any time at all reading opinions on job search and hiring, you'll often see "never send a picture along with your resume" treated as a hard and fast rule. Among the many resumes my firm receives, occasionally some are paired with pictures. We've seen everything from self-portrait-style bar shots (on younger marketing resumes) to actors' head shots (especially for applicants in NYC and L.A.), to traditional, professional corporate portraits.
Since it is my job to recruit sales professionals on a daily basis, I have a very firm grasp as to what a sales career consists of including: The daily tasks of a business development professional, what it takes to be successful in sales, the misconceptions that young people have about sales, the industries you want to get into, which industries you want to avoid, base compensation for entry level candidates, expected earnings or OTE after sales commissions, future earnings if you succeed in business development, how to properly interview for a career in sales and much more.
Training needs at work are overlooked believe almost 50% of employees and 33% would like to use the extra day in the leap year for training, according to a recent survey. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) questioned over 1,000 employees to ask what they would most like to use the extra ...
Self-confidence is an important key to personal and professional success. If you want to become self confident you need to do three things. 1) Become an optimist. 2) Face your fears and take action. 3) Surround yourself with positive people. In this article, I'd like to focus on the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people. Positive people help your self-confidence because they tend to see the potential in you - even when you might not see it in yourself.
In my life I have listen many times a famous quote which is, "first impression is the last impression". This is actually a very true line! The first presentation is your resume to an employer. Resume shows your personality and it has the summary of your present and past skills. When you get an interview call, it means something special in your resume which attracts the eye of your targeted employer for bank jobs . One thing that you need to keep in mind while writing your res

Choosing Your College Major: After graduating high school, choosing a college major can be a splash of reality and your first formal introduction into the “real world.” Many colleges have a plethora of majors in which to choose from and some will seem interesting while others will turn you off. It’s just part of human nature. There are a few factors to keep in mind when choosing your major and these should help take the weight off a little bit. I have included some advice you ought to read before beginning college and choosing a major.
Otherwise called a Protestant work ethic, a Google™ of the term “work ethic” yields a definition at Answers.com that reads, “A view of life that promotes hard work and self-discipline as a means to material prosperity. It is called Protestant because some Protestant groups believe that such ...
You're at work. You've been assigned an exciting, highly visible project. You can't wait to get started. You arrive at your first team meeting ready to rock and roll. You take one look around and you immediately hone in on several scowling faces. Almost immediately, you are confronted and a conflict ensues. Your excitement quickly diminishes as you realize you have your work cut out for you.
1. What is the most important trait you look for in child actors? The ability to be relaxed, comfortable, disciplined and natural in front of virtual strangers is a hard quality to find. Clients want kids to be real kids not seem like they were forced or coached by their parents. 2. What would be the ideal attire for children to wear to an audition? An interview? Simple age appropriate clothing not to casual but also not overly dressy for both an audition and an interview. No hats or makeup. We want to see what they naturally look like.
Do you have the courage to reach your goals? Do you have the courage to succeed? Do you have the courage to mix with the people who can change your life. Do you have the courage to walk away from those who keep you in your place? If you really want to change your lifestyle and become successful one of the major keys is simply: keep good company.nnThe people around you affect the way you live your life and the way you see the world. All business owners have what seems to be a grandiose vision of an office full of having happy, loyal and productive employees. They think of it as Santa's Workshop - magical and could only be done in the movies. Chasing this dream, these small and mid-size executives waste tons of money on consultants who have no real track record because they are desperate for more production from each worker.
If you want to become interpersonally competent, you need to do three things. First, get to know yourself. Use this self knowledge to help you better understand and communicate with the other people in your life. Second, build solid, long lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with the people in your life. Third, resolve conflict positively and creatively. Use conflict as an opportunity to strengthen your relationships. Sometimes, I find little nuggets in fortune cookies that I reference.
You know the all too common question in job applications and at job interviews: “Do you like to work on your own or as part of a team?” This is one of the questions that most people now know what to answer to please the interviewers and maybe score a few points. You say that you "like” both and “strive” in both environments! Of course. However, when you run your own business, and from home, you are very likely to be working on your own the vast majority of the time. What’s your real preference?
Some Big Advantages Female Sales Professionals Possess
You create positive personal impact in three ways: 1) creating and building a unique and powerful personal brand; 2) being impeccable in your presentation of self -- in person and on line; and 3) knowing and following the basic rules of etiquette. I was reading an article in October 2009 issue of Laptop Magazine called "Manage Your Online Rep." It ended with this piece of advice… "Staying offline is impossible. So keep things classy, or you may be passed over for a job that you're otherwise perfect for. Actively manage your on line reputation.
With almost 16 million people out of work, more and more people are finding themselves having to figure out how to land a job in a market where more jobs are being lost. This is the toughest environment in 50 years to get a job in and you better have your best game on to do so. While the consensus is that no one is hiring, apply the tips in this article exactly as they are written and I assure you that you will not just get a job, but get the job you want. ⢠Decide that you
When's the last time that you told someone that you are passionate about your work? If you're like most people, you probably don't even associate the word passion with your job. In last month's Red Ladder survey, only 34% of respondents said that they do not wake up easily or feel excited about the day ahead. Only 44% of respondents felt that they were doing their best work and living up to their full potential. Further, 56% of respondents indicated that they would like to pursue new interests but often procrastinate or feel paralyzed, and thus, do nothing. Doesn't that make you feel sad?
Some 40% of employers now use some form of career aptitude test as part of their employee selection process and this number appears to be rising. This is because employers recognise that choosing candidates on the basis of a job interview only is very subjective. They know that it’s not always the most suitable candidate who performs best in the interview and making a recruitment decision based on 45 minutes is not ideal. So many choose to base their recruitment decisions on selection test results as well as a job interview to add an element of objectivity to the decision making.
Are you a senior citizen seeking employment for retirees? Have your medical benefits been reduced significantly? Has your hard earned pension suffered a hit by your former employer? When you communicate verbally, you communicate in one of the most direct ways you can to get your idea across to an audience. Yet, you can enhance what you say and how you say it by showing what you say. Letting people see your message adds another dimension to your communication. Visualizing your message may be the deciding factor that clarifies your idea and convinces your audience to act on or support it. This is where visual aids help seal the deal.
Employee warnings are confronting, awkward and tend to be avoided as much as possible. When the time comes that they are necessary, it is important to use a sample warning letter to aid you throughout the process. Warning letters are not a compulsory legal requirement but they are considered useful to confirm and address underperformance concerns with the employee. Warning letters are to be produced and submitted after the meeting with the relevant employee has taken place, i
Why do 80% of our team issues come from 20% of our team members? And, how do you recognize and eliminate these issues? According to the Carnegie Institute of Technology, only 15% of your success is due to your technical knowledge while 85% of success is attributable to your ability to express ideas, arouse enthusiasm, and lead people. Further, miscommunication is at the root of a majority of workplace and personal dilemmas. Whatever behavior one displays to others is open to a multitude of interpretations, depending on who’s doing the interpreting.
To become a good graphic designer, you need to work very very hard. Graphic design is a creative field and you have to work under the criterion set by your clients. You have to use a variety of materials to always stay updated about the latest ups and downs in your field of work. You have to be familiar with high-end computer software that are meant for creating beautiful graphic designs but it's not that your entire graphic designing is taken care of by the software. You hav
"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will not be realized. Make big plans. Aim high in hope and work." This quote from Daniel Burnham is a perfect to begin a post on outstanding performance. If you're going to set goals, you might as well set big ones. As Mr. Burnham says, big goals will "stir your blood." He ought to know, he designed famous landmarks like the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington DC. I agree with Mr. Burnham; many people set their sights too low.
Once the cap and gown come off, in the dream world of a college student, it is time to put your knowledge to the test, drop the student title, secure the perfect job, make money, and continue living your life as if set backs didnât exist. It all sounds like a piece of cake until the reality of the real world hits and you realize the dire recession that we are dealing with in todayâs economy. The current economic condition makes it difficult to find employment especially i
This is a tough time to be looking for a job. Many of my career success coaching clients are having difficulty getting interviews let alone landing a job. However, I heard a story not too long ago about a new MBA from NYU who got five job offers. He did it by creating unique resumes especially tailored to the job for which he was applying. This takes work, but in this fellow's case, the hard work paid off. In the old days -- before computers -- creating unique resumes for every job for which you apply would have involved a mega amount of work. In the digital age, it's a lot easier.
It seems to come as a surprise to many that giving an effective presentation or speech is one of the key ingredients for a successful career – so you may want to learn some tips for public speaking. But for many, Public Speaking is also one of the most terrifying tasks they will have to undertake in their career. Are you one of those people for whom public speaking is a necessary evil? With so much emphasis being given to training the workforce, it is not surprising that organizations are creating specialized positions for the role that will be initiating the learning in an organization. Is he or she different from learning development officer or is he the same? So before we go further into th
You can become self confident by doing three things. First, choose optimism. Believe in your heart of hearts that today will be better than yesterday, and that tomorrow will be better than today. Second, face your fears and act. Procrastination and inaction feed fear and rob you of self confidence. Action cures fear. Third, surround yourself with positive people. Don't let the naysayers into your life.
In my work as an executive coach, keynote speaker, leadership consultant and author I have spent the last five years studying what it takes to succeed in your life and career. I have found that successful people share five traits in common. 1. Successful people are self confident. 2. Successful people have positive personal impact. 3. Successful people are outstanding performers. 4. Successful people are excellent communicators. 5.
* Did you learn something here? If so, please rate my articles, 'click!' and it's done! It will make me feel good too.* We all have skills. Yes, we do. What we do with them is a different matter. Imagine what good they could do with such creativity!!
Don’t believe them. When companies tell you they aren’t hiring because of the recession, don’t believe them. What they mean to say is that during a recession they are very, very disce ing about who they hire and who they keep on their team. However, every company is always hiring as long as they believe they are getting an amazingly talented person who fits well within their culture. Transferable skills are what will make you a person of interest in multiple industries. I d
No matter what our goals in life are, our career will stretch through a series of jobs and experiences that will truly polish our skill and personality. While all of us may have defining moments that will determine our core beliefs around determination, hard work, and persistence, these are all simply components of a greater foundation that defines 'you'. A successful rise through corporate ranks involves a profound understanding and possible change in your approach and outlo
I’ve had many clients who want to make a change in their career but don’t know what to do. They have plenty of great ideas: on-line businesses, teaching, becoming a consultant, working for a non-profit, finding a green job. But they are afraid to choose one, because, what if they don’t make it? What if they don’t like it? What if they decide they would rather spend their time doing something else? What if they miss other opportunities because their focus was elsewhere? REALLY?? Come on. You are a creative being. You will ALWAYS have new ideas to distract you.
Your leadership success is the direct result of your ability to motivate and inspire people to get things done – whether they report to you or not. Most of you understand the importance of empowering your team to make decisions. You’ve probably even gotten comfortable delegating tasks. Now you need to focus on inspecting what you expect. Why? This is the key to ensuring that you and your team achieve your organizations results.
Few interviewees send an interview thank you letter for one or several reasons: • They think it looks like they’re sucking up (this is nonsense) • They think there’s no point as the decision has been made (it rarely has) • It doesn’t occur to them to send one (more fool them) Sending an interview thank you letter, right after your interview is very powerful indeed because:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are meant to shine, as children do....and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

The benefits of mentoring have been recognized by leading researches and are gradually being recognized worldwide through various leading edge institutions as a means of energizing and developing youth. Underlying this trend is the widely held belief that a supportive relationship between a young person and an older non-parental figure, whether established via formal programs or informal connections, represents an asset for personal and professional development in youth, especially cultural and economically disadvantaged youth. What is mentoring?
As we go through our daily lives, we may not always see the blessings we have around us. We are too busy; we are deep in thought or just carrying on with our regular routines. However, we all have many blessings every day and if we aren’t careful, the day could pass and we could miss them. Ezekiel 34:26 “I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper seaso I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing.”

Benefits of Effective Time Management One always has time enough, if one will apply it well.rn- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Years ago, I was hired to replace a manager who was staying with the company but moving to another department. In my first meeting with the manager, she provided a synopsis of the 35-member team, identifying winners, troublemakers and the borderline losers (her words). I donât know what part of the ego her labeling came from, but it was revealing. Labels aside, I engaged the team through a series of meetings where we introduced ourselves, talked about our backgrounds and di
I'm often asked for my best thoughts on what it takes to become a career and life success -- the key competencies. I always tell my coaching clients to think systematically, to break success down into some manageable components. Here is a summary of what I tell my coaching clients on how to become a career and life success. Put these points to use and you will succeed, just like my coaching clients. Do it yourself. Realize that no one is going to do it for you -- not even your executive coach. You have to take personal responsibility for your success.
I was asked to review a new book, The Big Picture: Essential Lessons for the Movies. Authors Kevin Coupe and Michael Sansolo do a great job of discussing the business and career success ideas in almost 200 movies. This is a very thoughtful book. Kevin and Michael make some great points about success that pop up in some unlikely movies. For example, they use the movie Babe to make the point that it's important to be different -- and break some rules -- if you want to get recognized and succeed. That's great personal branding advice.
It's easy for speakers, voice artists, studio owners, and really, any entrepreneur who has fun in their work doing creative projects, to start getting a little too lax in how we treat our time and our mindset. Many of us in the speaking or audio fields have left a 'first career' in a less creative industry or a string of unsatisfying day jobs for the freedom of studio or speaking life, which makes it seem like a vacation. But, ultimately, to quote personal development and b
You’ve likely heard the saying, “Don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” But if you did take it for an answer in the past, it’s possible you never saw your idea or plan through to a successful completion. No matter where you travel in life or what you accomplish, there are always roadblocks and naysayers ready to shoot down your ideas. While you can’t change that, what you can adjust is the way you react to roadblocks in your travels so that you are able to keep your eyes on the prize…your idea, implemented. Let’s take a look at some effective ways to do just that.
In the business world and in real life, the words you use matter. Words are powerful. They can inspire confidence or they can have the exact opposite effect - create a lack of confidence. Let me give you an example, using the current presidential campaign. And please, this isn't intended to ...

The healthcare industry offers plenty of career options to choose from. If you have a strong passion of seeing people improve their health and assisting scientists and medical staff, becoming a clinical support worker can just be the right career option for you. nNursing today is much different from nursing practices years ago. The nursing profession is expected to continue changing all for the better of nurses and the patients they take care of.n nThe traditional roles of wife, mother, daughter and sister have always included caring for and nurturing other family members. This has been fact even from the beginning of time as women cared for infants and children. As a result, we can assume that nursing values and characteristics actu

The best way to utilise your time effectively is to identify the goals you first need to achieve. We usually feel that we have far too many things to accomplish and need to deliver on too many promises. This makes us feel overwhelmed which leads us to give up and choose to do nothing instead. We sulk and complain about how much work we have instead of actually doing anything. Of course complaining is not necessarily a bad thing. Talking about how we feel can be very healthy for us. But there is a fine line between always complaining and blowing off steam.
There is little difference between a sales professional and a small business entrepreneur. For the most part, the two share similar goals, strengths and personality traits. They also must implement the same types of business plans to increase sales and allow their business to flourish. I have come to learn that networking will only raise your sales numbers so much and will only get an entrepreneur's business so many incoming inquiries.
Fat, foul-mouthed, racist – call him what you want, but Eric Cartman is, without doubt, an entrepreneur. What traits make the young Colorado inhabitant both so lovable and so entrepreneurial? Here is where Cartman excels where most entrepreneurs fall short: Cartman is no stranger to hitting the phones and making the sale.r
The people that own or run these stockbroker firms have a mindset that this is a commission business. Meaning, the clients you get will ultimately make you the money. This is largely true. The more clients you have, the more money you can/will make. A stock firm does not pay much in salary. $250-$500 weekly during training is the a

I often think about something that my uncle once told me when I asked him if he minded getting older. He said, “Age is a state of mind over matter, if you don’t mind it then it doesn’t matter.” With each passing year (and birthday) I have come to appreciate the wisdom of this statement. I have learned that what he did was to reframe his vision about age and that what he was really talking about was changing his perspective and attitude to appreciate something that might not otherwise have been an enjoyable event.
Regardless of the accomplishments and awards you that college graduates got from school, a college graduate may still end up jobless in today's economy. The problem starts day one and the situation is nearly always the same. A new sales manager, fresh from the sales pit, takes over a business development team and, instinctively they begin to coach and mentor the sales representatives in the same way that their old sales manager taught them - to become better sales people. The aforementioned "status quo" management and teaching method sometimes leads to higher numbers. Regardless, sometimes the numbers unexpectedly fall.

I recently heard an interview with leadership expert, best selling author and speaker, John Maxwell, and was intrigued by the discussion on the topic of “Failing Forward”, a book that he had written several years back. So why are some individuals able to fight off handicaps and hardships, only to fail forward, not backwards?

Ask anyone and they will tell you they have been guilty of it at one time or another. Some find it exhilarating while others find it stressful. What is it? It’s procrastination, the formal term for putting off or avoiding a task or work that needs to be completed, usually within a specific timeframe. Very few actually describe procrastination as exhilarating. I for one, fall in the “procrastination is stressful” category. However, procrastination can be used to advantage if you understand why you procrastinate.
Because of the illegal yet persistent practice of age discrimination in hiring, many seasoned job seekers want to appear younger on their resumes. The impulse is understandable, but many prospective employees go about resume editing in ways that are ineffective and make their resumes look as if they are attempting to hide something from prospective employers. As a job seeker, if you do wish to look younger on your resume, here are some ways how:

The Difference Between a Job in Sales and Marketing While many think that sales and marketing careers are the same, they often prove to be quite different and, subsequently carry very different tasks / required knowledge of the employee. As of late, many small businesses have added to the confusion as to the difference between sales and marketing jobs by titling and / or marketing their open jobs as "Sales and Marketing" when it is only one of the two. In life we meet up with people with whom you have very little in common. At random times you find yourself sharing the same room at which stage you are forced to acknowledge the existence of that person. Striking up a conversation can be difficult, small talk won’t help, especially if it is forced. We often intuitively know when we are about to have a conversation with a person that will prove to be a difficult one. Some of us seem not to have any trouble striking up random conversations. It is difficult for us to make easy conversation when we anticipate negative feedback.
An interesting development in the Porsche vs Volkswagen drama has been the recent resignation of it’s CEO of 17 years, Wendelin Wiedeking. It could also be that Wiedeking was made to leave. It was a very sudden decision. Wiedeking took over the management of Porsche when the automaker seemed to be on its last legs.

Nearly as dreaded as snakes and spiders, public speaking ranks high in causing fear in many of us. Whether your motivation is a desire to learn or simple necessity, here is a really simple guide to writing and giving a speech. Your Topic: is this speech about something already know? How many times in your life have you said you were going to do something, and then not done it? Too many to count, like 99% of people I guess. Our word to ourselves somehow comes cheap, the cheapest of all words that we give. Why? Because noone else would know the difference. What if someone knew the difference? What if someone important to you, knew the difference?
When things happen to others everyone seems to want to reach out to help. When countries are hit with devastations, when families lose a loved one, or when people are in need for whatever reason, we all want to pitch in and do what we can. It is great we are people who care but why do some of us need a crisis to occur before we decide to help someone?
In the present times, the need of alternative resources is being felt by budding aspirants. These alternatives are indeed known for their simplification schemes with respect to job-search. From the past few decades, employment exchange is being a source passed on to the coming generations from their ancestors. This is indeed a resource center where you need to get your credentials registered. As the time passed by, innovative technologically advanced ways of job-seeking were
Much of my coaching and training work over the years can be summarized in a couple of words: “psychology” and “relationships”….I’m over simplifying it, but I’ve seen lives change and careers skyrocket based on one’s predominant thoughts (i.e. psychology…confidence/inspiration) and the strength of one’s relationships - how we relate to others and they relate to us. How can we use these two concepts, and inspire ourselves in these times, on the job or during a stressful job search?
How do polarising filters work? The top quality of the visuals in your photograph depends to a large extent on the way in which your camera manages light. Natural light travels in the form of a wave, vibrating in a variety of different directions, and is said to be unpolarised. When it hits any surface with a shine (except a mirror or a metallic surface), the light gets reflected along a single direction and is said to be polarised. A polarising filter act like a sieve that
George Burns once said, "I'd rather be a failure at something I love than successful at something I hate." I suspect that many of us would agree with him, but unfortunately, too many people feel stuck in jobs that, if they don't actually hate them, they don't love them, either. In fact, a June 2013 Gallup poll revealed that an alarming 70% of those surveyed either hate their jobs or are completely disengaged with regard to their performance on them.
To be able to start a business from thin air is quite a hard thing to do. Some can, some cannot. There are a lot variables when it comes to a business succeeding or failing. I often chuckle at how hard so many of us seem to be working to find the ever elusive balance that we seek. Some of you are probably personally convinced (and some days I am too!) that balance simply does not really exist. Perhaps you have told yourself that having balance is simply one of those urban legends. Sort of like the Loch Ness Monster, you've heard of it but never seen it.
To survive and flourish, any business needs to increase net revenue and sustain growth; to do this, businesses must have a workforce that performs well and achieves or even exceeds targets. And the only kind of workforce that can do that is a motivated workforce. So clearly, an effective motivation program must be in place if any company is to achieve its goals. According to the study âIncentives, Motivation and Workplace Performance: Research & Best Practicesâ by Harold
I liked the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony for its simple elegance. As I was watching, I took note of a line in Slam Poet Shane Koyczan' tribute to Canada, We Are More… And some say what defines usr Is something as simple as "please" and "thank you" The Canadian audience roared when they heard that line. After all, Canadians are known for being polite. Creating positive personal impact is one of the competencies that comprise my career success system. If you want to create positive personal impact, you need to do three things.
According to the web site www.idiomeanings.com, the definition of sucking up is: ‘to behave in a very friendly, flattering, or kind manner to someone higher than you in order to get a benefit.’ Usually this is done in a very contrite and deceptive manner. A person says things and does things which they are not sincere about. We can all think of TV shows and movies where characters have done this and we sit there thinking how wrong that is and how they will be found out etc. T

One of the worst things that an interviewer can do is to take the time to prepare for the questions that they feel they are going to be asked, take even more time to do industry and company research only to ace the Q and A part of the interview then not have any questions to ask back.
It’s simple – if you work for a good company, you’re going to be worth more on the market than those who gain employment with “so-so” firms. This is not to mention that you will learn a tremendous more working under intelligent, engaging and dedicated individuals. Though, if you’re a younger job seeker, your perception is inevitably going to be skewed when it comes to deciphering a good company from that of an average firm. This is mainly because every company out there tells the interviewee how great they are even when the sky is not the limit.

Social media, marketing, and PR jobs at good companies that promise solid upward growth potential are few and far between. In order to position yourself as strongly as possible, your best bet it to tailor your resume so that the hiring managers find you, not exclusively the other way around. Most resume tips are, by nature, subjective. One hiring manager may see something on your resume and want to call you right away, while unbeknownst to you, that very thing may be what turned off the last person who reviewed your CV.

I recently received an email story, author unknown, titled, Your Parachute. It was about a U.S. Navy jet pilot, Charles Plumb, who was shot down after 76 combat missions and spent 6 years in a Vietnamese prison. He had to overcome numerous obstacles but he survived his ordeal. One day Plumb ran into a man who recognized him saying he was the sailor who had packed Plumb’s parachute that fateful day. The man told Plumb that he was delighted to know that the parachute he had packed had worked and was glad it had saved him when he had been shot down.
When surfing around the web, just like anybody else, I come across hundreds of blogs that peak my interest (sales, marketing, HR and entrepreneurship are what I surf around for). Upon visiting most of these social media forums, I notice that their platform is not friendly to the blogger. This form of social media "mean spirit" comes in the ugly form of "no-follow" tags. As soon as I see a "no-follow" tag, I cease to visit the site again. With the number of blogs out there, there is no reason to show a blog or social media platform that could seemingly care less about you.
There are many instances when, one needs to think practically, when it comes to address the concerns of career building. Referring resume samples is one such thought which needs to be implemented on for smoother future in terms of profession. Has the pendulum swung too far in increasing productivity at the expense of employee work-life balance? In an article titled, Americans of All Stripes Are Sicker Than They Need to Be, Paul Krugman indicated that full-time American workers work, on average, about 46 weeks per year compared with 41 weeks for full-time British, French and German workers. One indication that this is taking a toll on American workers is that it appears that more employees are taking mental health days. According to a May 8th article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, more than one-third of U.S.
As recruiters, we get a lot of calls from companies who are unsure whether or not they need to use a recruiting service. Here are some guidelines to help you determine when you should look into using a recruiting service and when it just isn't worth your time and money. Here are some points you should consider before contacting a recruiting firm:
To develop your personal clarity or purpose you need to do three things. First, define what success means to you. Second, create a vivid mental image of you as a success. Third, clarify your personal values. Once you define what success means to you personally, I suggest that you develop a clear mental picture of you as a success. This image should be as vivid as you can you make it. When I was 25, I conjured up an image of myself as a successful motivational speaker, executive coach, management consultant and author.
The capacity to grow and change is a gift to our current and future selves. When we expand our minds, we expand our horizons and therefore our possibilities. With the ability to change comes the potential that what appeared impossible before may suddenly become possible. The gift of growth and change can come from three places in our lives: internal (ourselves), exte al (others), or circumstantial (events). We will explore how to recognize and get the most out of the gifts provided from each of these areas. Internal (Ourselves)
Who Am I Who Are You We all read faces from the moment we meet someone, we get a sense about who that person is. Over the years we subconsciously record these patterns and when we see someone’s face it triggers off a connection or memory we have noticed in the past. Face Pattern Recognition, which is the relationship between the facial structure and personality, provides us with a tool that helps us to better people we meet with.

During one of the interviews I made for my book Passion Pays: how to make a living from your passions... and change the world too, Rick Mathews, songwriter in L.A. made a statement about his industry: you get 95% rejection. It made me think that all other people I had interviewed made the same point, albeit in their own way. If you are also in professional services, self-employed, or merely working towards a vision, you will understand that you are in the rejection industry (it's all a game!).

Sociology is the study of how individuals relate to society and vice versa. It covers the concepts of group dynamics, unspoken social codes, and patterns of behavior on local, national, and global scales. Sociology studies how societies change over time, how social order develops, and sources of conflict in societies. The typical college sociology class covers topics like racial and ethnic identities, family units, and consequences of change within various social structures.
I have learned that self confidence is an upward spiral. Self confidence leads to professional success, which in turn leads to increased self confidence, which leads to higher levels of success, and so on. You might be saying, "That's great, but how do I become self confident if I'm new in my job or career and haven't had a lot of success to bolster my self confidence?" There's an old saying that applies here: "Fake it till you make it." In other words, act as if you're successful. This will help you succeed.
Life seems to have a way of working out. People have enthusiastically contributed to the recent success of books like The Secret and The Law of Attraction. Yet many mistake the practice of this law. They have misunderstood what the message of these books is all about. They have allowed themselves to believe that the Law of Attraction will fulfill their dreams just by sitting back and thinking what they want from their lives. As far as I am conce ed, this is not how it works. The only way this law can be used is to put action to the dreams.

It was not easy starting a company and achieving what I did at a young age and it doesn't get much easier being a 30-year-old CEO. Running a business and making headway, thus gaining a positive reputation in your vertical, takes a dedication that only few have. Small business never stops and the young CEO must keep up. However, as hard as it may seem at times, I don't think that working for someone else would suit either me or anyone else with the right mindset to become a young CEO and business owner.

In this brief article, I expose some of the most common and deadly misconceptions about distance learning. And you want to read this. Why? Because if you do not consider the new trends and potential of distance learning, you may be ignoring or discounting vital opportunities to increase your career skills, complete your degree, or expand your professional relationships. That is correct, some of these myths are deadly for you, because even though the means to breathe new life into your career are sitting in your home, you are have decided to ignore them.
Even if you had an awkward, seemingly unconstructive interview with a person / company, that does not mean that you cannot turn the situation around in your favor. This can be swiftly accomplished via incorporating some simplistic after interview tricks that others are not doing nor do they even think to do. By being able to grasp and successfully utilize the three below tactics, you should never leave an interview feeling that you are beaten again.
When we sacrifice we may feel as if we are giving up part of ourselves to help someone else. We often tell other people how we sacrificed for our children to have the things they have. We may say we had to sacrifice in our marriage or in our work. We all have to make sacrifices but God tells us He wants submission and obedience rather than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22 "But Samuel replied, ‘What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.’"r
Ronald Reagan once quipped: "A recession is when your friend loses their job. A depression is when you lose yours." We're either dipping or narrowly skirting a recession, and getting good job hunting skills (or refreshing your existing one) is becoming a growing priority for millions of Americans and Europeans.
There are times we need to get something done and we aren’t quite sure how we are going to do it. We may not have the knowledge and skills. We may not have the time or talents. There are situations when we are so busy doing things we may not see there is someone who can help who is really close to us. We need to stay aware of not only what we have to do but who is willing and able to assist us.

Ning is a bit different than a social network that you join. Ning gives you the freedom to create your own social network in any topic or niche you desire and invite friends to join. You are the creator and administrator of the network and you can manage members and content. This is your chance to provide a social gathering place on the Internet for a topic that may not have a major social network of its own. As the administrator you can encourage dialogue, upload videos and advertise your products right on the site.
Think about the last time you rode a train. You likely went to the station, purchased a ticket, waited on the platform for the train to arrive as scheduled, boarded the train and safely arrived at your destination. There was little or no excitement, just another normal day at the station, right? Now what if you stepped on the same train and the conductor suddenly cried out that the brakes had failed and the train was out of control? You might panic, pray or even pass out. Why? Because you no longer felt you were in control.
There are a few different fee structures that recruitment agencies utilize upon staffing job seekers in the United States. For instance, many recruiting firms will work on what is called a contingency recruiting fee. This means that the recruitment firm is paid upon placing the job candidate. This is as opposed to a retained fee, which signifies that the staffing agency was paid up front and that the hiring client is typically only working with them. In the case of a retained search, the staffing agency usually has what is called “exclusivity.”
Periodically, we may find ourselves at a crossroads in our career -- a point where there may be several possible paths or directions we can choose. The road we have been on is either coming to an end, or there are new options intersecting it that force us to make directional choices. We come to such a crossroads for a myriad of reasons: • A layoff or other involuntary release from a previous job. • Voluntary departure from a previous job, but without anything lined up to follow it. • Frustration when we feel our true potential is not perceived by others.r
Most young entrepreneurs can't wait until graduation. They finally can be free to roam the business world in search of the company that they're going to make millions off of without the mundane tests and ever-increasingly mundane professors. For aspiring entrepreneurs who are not yet convinced they've found the right business for them, and who need a paycheck to cover loans: do the entrepreneurial thing and think outside of the box.

These leaders are newly appointed to a leadership role because they have the qualifications and the results to match. The company sees potential in these individuals because they are technically sound, highly driven, and talented. Their employers have big plans for these new leaders. However, in some instances, persons reporting to them don’t feel engaged, they feel fearful. They don’t feel energetic, they feel drained, voiceless, over worked and undervalued. Based on interactions with a wide variety of businesses here are some characteristics of inexperienced leaders:
You can become self confident by doing three things. First, choose optimism. Believe in your heart of hearts that today will be better than yesterday, and that tomorrow will be better than today. Second, face your fears and act. Procrastination and inaction feed fear and rob you of self confidence. Action cures fear. Third, surround yourself with positive people. Don't let the naysayers into your life. Hang around with people who are positive about themselves, their careers and life in general. Fear can -- and will -- paralyze you.

To plenty of university students, the idea of language study abroad alludes to the idea of a semester or year spent gallivanting around Europe with loads of partying thrown into the mix. It is only understandable to want to take advantage of the opportunity of study abroad to see all that one can see, and do all that one can do, during that time, but the true winners when it comes to acquiring another language just might be those that choose a less-than-popular destination. T

One of the greatest mysteries associated with applying for a job is how to create a good reference list. Because not every employer even requests this list as a part of the application process, it can often be difficult to know exactly who should be listed and when. One key to remember is even if you don’t know whether references are necessary, it’s good to think of some people you might want to consider just in case. But that’s just one consideration to make regarding refer

Bring Ideas To The Table, Solve Problems Sales is quite easy, though most don't make it out to be. At the end of the day, sales is about solving the customer's problems and doing so by offering unique perspectives as to how to skin the cat. More often than not, when a company calls a vendor, they don't know what they want nor what they can get. Many small business owners answer the phone expecting the client to know exactly what they want. Then, when the client doesn't know how to exactly respond, they are often angered as to the lack of knowledge the individual has.
There are 5 basic reasons why people buy (and don't or won’t buy). Once you know these reasons, you can make sure to master the right information about your product or service to serve better those people who would get great value from it (even if they don't know it!) For any purchase, people will buy for any one or more of the reasons below: 1. Desire - They have a desire to own the product or receive the service E.g. ever gone to a supermarket or candy store with a kid? Hmm.. yes, you know what I mean; that’s desire at its peak!r
In building the latest version of my company's website, I've had the opportunity to revisit a lot of old audio projects and samples we've done over the years. I remember taking that leap into professional voice work around 2003, and how capable I really felt when I landed that first voice client. Soon after I ended up moving my studio to a much different, bigger location, and I felt like the new environment I created improved the overall quality of what I was producing. At t
When I was leaving college, just like many, I thought that managing people meant that you made it in your career. Instead, now I think that managing people is one more step towards another career goal. My job consists of dealing with managers and executives at companies both big and small, companies both domestically and internationally. I obviously have my own style, though like the management of some others as well. I have dealt with bad managers too. Though, after a while, in my business you can usually sniff them out and you avoid working with them.
Successful people are clear on their purpose in life -- and they are committed to it. They take personal responsibility for creating the successful lives and careers that they want and deserve. I'm always looking for ways to get my common sense message about career and life success across to my clients. That's why I was struck by a passage in Tracy Chevalier's new book, Remarkable Creatures. If you don't know Tracy Chevalier, you should. For my money she is one of the best novelists writing today.

“How can I manage my business with confidence?” is a question clients ask time and time again. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it.” – Samuel Johnson

After graduating college or right before getting their diploma many entry-level job seekers are exposed to recruiters for the first time. One of the main reasons for this is that many career centers are not too keen on headhunters primarily due to the fact that some recruitment professionals act in a manner that is perceived not to be in the best interest of the college graduate.

About 10 minutes prior to writing this, I was combing through articles to see if there was a definition of social media which I really liked. There was nothing. I came across an abundance of articles which were vague and which the author had seemingly no idea what social media is. Social media is a way to bring to people together via the web and spark an interest in the online community, thus enabling these users to converse about said topic (or topics) together on your social media platform. Common Misconceptions:
1. Keep it service-based and simplistic. I was recently told by someone that their new invention was going to be global; it was going to be the next big thing. Then, I asked him about production, warehousing, distribution and patent because if it got as big as he was boasting, someone would have ripped it off half-way through.
Upon being hired, many sales professionals simply go into the company, do their work, make quota, but don't gain any ground regarding getting to the next level. Then, they spend hours, days, weeks and years wondering as to why this is while they could spend the time bettering themselves. The reason for this is that meeting quota and staying at a company is not a great feat and does not deserve accolade after accolade. Sales managers know this and they will, and this is not out of spite or personal dislike, create a glass ceiling and will promote others instead.
There are certain business rules in existence that young, up-and-coming business professionals and entrepreneurs should do their best to abide by. Paying attention to and following these rules will inevitably make your career and business run more smoothly and successfully. Taking A Genuine Interest In People One of the strongest assets a young business professional (or any business professional) can acquire is a good set of listening skills. People love to speak about themselves and, this becomes problematic to the business professional when they do just so.
The Lie: Working From Home Is The Best Way To Do It The Truth: Take it from someone who had to work out of his apartment for nearly 3 years because one if New York City rent is a tension headache, two New York City rents are a migraine. Though, the return on investment on having an office is tremendous. As a young entrepreneur, it gave me a second wind. Not only does a real office allow you to get out of the house, it makes things more "official." It allows the entrepreneur to create a company culture and finally separate their home from their business life.

You’ve probably heard of the show “Pimp My Ride,” where a lucky person has a chance to turn an otherwise crappy vehicle into the beautiful car of their dreams. Well, as beautiful as a 1978 Ford Pinto can get, that is. The point is that there are ways to turn something not-so-beautiful into something spectacular. The same can be done with your resume. So if you want to turn your bland document into a job-getter, take a moment to review some tips that will help you “pimp” your
Although I have a very keen eye for spotting a fair amount of negotiation tactics, I find negotiation, in most circumstances, to simply be a hindrance to the normal flow of business. For a moment, tally up the opportunity cost that you have seen wasted by others who want to negotiate arbitrary, meaningless things like the cost of pens at Staples. You would probably have a good chunk of change if you summed up all that wasted time and energy.
If you’ve ever presented an idea, concept, or suggestion and received a less-than-positive reaction in return, then you’ve probably wondered where your message went wrong and what you could have done differently. At times, your choice of words is all that stands between you and the positive response you desire. The English language is rich with choices. You can use multiple words to convey what may seem to be the same message on the surface, yet each word communicates a subtle “hidden message” that differs between words.

As an actor or model you will be dealing with many types of hiring clients such as Photographers, Casting Directors, Art Directors, Talent Agents, Talent Managers, Film Directors, Producers, Ad Agencies, and Networks etc. Many models and actors feel that one or all of the above is preventing their success? Constantly the Actor, Model or Entertainer deal with a lot of unknown factors such as; why don’t things happen quicker in my career? Who is slowing down my career? Why didn’t I get the role when I performed excellently? Why am I not going out on more auditions?
In every company each year they hire many new employees. Most companies have a new employee checklist and put them through a new employee induction of some sort. The sad truth is, many of these new employees just do not work out. Right from the outset I will say that generally the only ones to blame for that are the ones that hired them. If you as a manager are responsible for hiring new employees and they fail before or just on the 'honeymoon period' or the initial first thr

I’m a Green Bay Packers fan, so I’m very very happy this week (for those of you who don’t follow American Football, they just won the Super Bowl). Win or lose, I’m a proud Packers fan, or a Cheesehead as we are sometimes called. I grew up in Wisconsin, my Dad grew up 30 minutes out of Green Bay. I was called “Packer” before I was born and they knew what to name me. And, some of my Dad’s ashes were spread over the 50 yard line at Lambeau Field, where the Packers play, when he passed away in 1999. So I’m a proud Packers fan.

Just as in any professional field, the recruitment industry has it's ups and downs. Some recruiters are fantastic at what they do while other, to put it bluntly, are not. Variations in the quality of companies and the people that work for them are standard, regardless of the industry. However, recruiters have the added responsibility of being able to affect someone else's career. Especially when dealing with recent college graduates who are just beginning their professional lives, recruiters have an enormous amount of influence and should tread carefully in the decision making process.
There are some days when we are tired for whatever reason. Days come where we feel like we are drained both emotionally and physically. Nights come where we are so tired that we can’t fall asleep. When we are tired, we are not much use to ourselves or others. Sometimes we can’t think straight, we can’t pay attention and we certainly have no energy to do much good for anyone.
When we try to hang on to our lives, we are trying to control the things and people in it. We need to realize that we have no real control over anything or anyone but ourselves. We have instructions how to live the best life in the Bible. We are instructed turn away from our self, take what we have and follow Jesus. We are to give up our life and the control we want to have over it and allow God to handle everything and to work through us.
Sales Presentations: Turn It Into a Corporate Slot Machine Contrary to popular belief, sales presentations are now always a lay-up. As a matter of fact, in sales terms, being one of many presenters of a product is like going to battle with your competition. Due to today's competitive landscape, you must be more prepared; you must be more confident (regardless of how you feel that day which plays a significant part) and your words and body language must come across better than that of your competition.

We have a book of instructions from God. The Bible gives us instruction on what to do in hard times. It gives us instruction on how to live. The Bible teaches us from history about men and women who faced problems we face now and how they handled them. We can use the Bible to help us or we can let it sit all week and just use it for church. The choice is up to us.
I am yet to tu 30 (I'm not too old), but when I was growing up, I vividly remember a few commercials for a well-known coffee company that essentially depicted people with messy morning hair and no smile suddenly transition into happy, ambitious, ready-for-work people after they drank a cup of joe. Within seconds they were happy.
Our personal and professional relationships are sometimes less than supportive and convinced of our ideas. For some of us, adversity is more of a daily occurrence than a once-in-a-while situation. When you are in a position of authority, it is the moment of crisis that can be the most difficult (and important) time to communicate your ideas.
The Million Dollar Answer to the “Why Should We Go With You?” Question If you own a business, than most likely, you’ve been asked this question an abundance of times. The answer is simple, “You cannot afford not to use my services,” or “You cannot afford not to buy my product.”
“You want to start your own business? That´s terribly risky.” “You want to go where? But that´s so far.” “You want a new what? Now, that´s not very practical.” “You want to leave a ‘good job’ for that idea? How will you take care of your family?” Any of this sound familiar?
When it come to selling your home, whether on your own or through a broker, the MLS or Multiple Listings Service is essential to success. As we go through life we will find there will be times when others are upset with us about what we have decided to do. We will find others have opinions about what we should be in life. We will find there will be others who want us to do what they believe we should do. When this happens, there is tension between us and the other person. We may give in and do as they wish but the right direction to go isn’t always to do what they want us to do.
Before we even realize we need to clean, we have to recognize something is dirty. We see or feel the dirt and grime and we know we have put off cleaning long enough. We can look and know, in just a glance, what we need to clean. When we put off cleaning these things, dirt and grime begins to build up and we aren’t as comfortable in them as we once were.
Last Wednesday the Wall Street Journal ran a small article called "Apprenticeship 101." Diane Prucino, the co-managing partner at the Kilpatrick Stockton law firm in Atlanta offered suggestions on what young lawyers should do to succeed as an associate in a large law firm. One of the suggestions that Ms. Prucino offered was, "Find and use a good mentor." This is good advice, not just for young law firm associates, but for anyone interested in becoming a career and life success.

People don't love sales professionals because people hate being ripped off. It is part of human nature. Nobody likes to make the wrong decision. This hurts the honest, hardworking sales professional, because many sales representatives don't think into the future. Instead, they think about their commission check this month. This train of thought and the resulting actions are the biggest barriers between the sales representative and true success.
Managing 5 intelligent people hands-on while making sure revenue keeps flowing and clients remain happy has given me no choice other than to implement good management skills to make the employees who are the future of my business happy and productive. However, I see poorly implemented management all the time. Seemingly, many managers get into their role and become complacent. Nothing great comes of it. Yes. They do their job. They are assigned some form of measurement for output from their team, they achieve that measurement and go home for the day.
We are creating problems in our relationships, with ourselves and with God when we choose to hide something. We are hurting relationships because we are not building trust and honesty. We are hurting ourselves because we are more than likely going to live in a world of guilt and distraction trying not to get caught. We are creating problems with God because we are not living as He requires us to.

Okay, there are many reasons why I love British Actor Colin Firth. I won’t bore you with most of them (wink), but a recent quote of his on a TV interview got me thinking. He said, “You get a brand attached to you sometimes whether you invite it or not.” He was referring to how he will probably always be thought of in terms of the iconic role he played, Mr. Darcy, in BBC’s “Pride and Prejudice.” It haunted him in his earlier career. It got me thinking that, even if we’re not aware of it, even if we never utter the words, we all have a brand of one sort of another.

The prospect of coming to a point later in life where you look back to realize that “well that was interesting, but I wonder if…” is really sad to me. I’m not so pollyanna that I think everyone should just abandon what they’re doing now and follow their dream. That’s both reckless and stressful. Even those who look like they just “up and quit one day” really did have a build up or plan to that point.
If we were to stop and think how we really feel right now, we would probably use words such as okay, good, been better, or fine. Some of us may even say we are bored, tired, distracted, or aggravated. We can easily turn our feelings from poor or average to above average. They would walk around with a sense of accomplishment and have the coolest cell-phones, blah, blah.

Gaining Discipline and a Strong Work Ethic at a Young Age Entrepreneurs mostly fall short because they don't have the work ethic needed to start a business from nothing. It took a while, but I had to train myself to work 17 hours a day. I've learned that it is the indirect work that an entrepreneur puts in that makes him or her successful. For instance, I continuously read new books that I feel may be pertinent to my job. I always take detailed notes so I don't forget the concepts.
The idea of facilitating training programs and presentations is an intriguing one for many professionals. But too often people have a misperception of facilitation thinking that it is more about standing in front of a group of people and demonstrating their expertise on a topic. But the reality of good facilitation is that it is not about being the "sage on the stage," but instead, about being simply a "guide on the side."

Belonging to a mastermind group is one of the best ways of building strong, lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with the people in your life. To the best of my knowledge, Napoleon Hill was the first person to use the term mastermind group in his timeless work Think and Grow Rich. The idea behind a mastermind group is simple. No one person has sufficient experience, knowledge and ability to succeed in this life without the cooperation of other people. When you’re creating your success plan, it helps to get the input and thinking of as many people as possible.

When I have a client with a difficult relationship with a boss or colleague, there is a simple exercise that I ask them to do. It is a transformational exercise that can become a life-changing practice. It is simply to list the positive aspects of their “difficult person”. This includes anything from “he’s a snappy dresser” to “she held the door open for the person coming in after her”. At first, my clients are so stuck in seeing only the negative that they have a difficult time with seeing anything positive at all.
Fear is one of life’s biggest roadblocks and fear of speaking in public is considered to be the number one phobia. You know that practice makes perfect, right? Or if it doesn't make perfect, it does make habit. Get used to thinking on your feet with these two simple tips to work on your talk improvisation skills: 1. AT HOME Write different topics on small pieces of paper and put them in a small box or bag. The topics could be everything and anything, from puppies to politics, parents to patents, shoe laces to shopping. Now, blindly pick a topic out of the box or bag. Read the topic and talk about it -out loud- for a couple of minute. Just say whatever comes to your mind about that topic.
As a recruiter, I almost never see different article publication references listed on the resumes of young, recent college graduates or, for that matter, executive level applicants.
