Lauren Still Quick Facts

Lauren Still (MBA, CTACC) is a strategic career coach for motivated professionals. She works with individuals and organizations to increase performance, “connect the dots” between where the individual is and where they want/need to be, maintain healthy work-life balance, and achieve goals and objectives more quickly. Lauren keeps her clients’ “rising stars” on their upward trajectory, and helps them avoid the “crash and burn” that many high-achieving professionals encounter.

Lauren’s professional experience spans all levels of an organization, small and large corporations, domestic and international environments, and a variety of industries. In her early career she developed the HR and hiring processes for a small family-owned manufacturing business and rapidly progressed to an executive in the company before joining Mercer Human Resource Consulting in Asia and Australia.

In 2006, she founded her own business to help professionals clarify and achieve their career and life goals. Lauren brings her depth of experience and business credentials to her coaching and consulting by helping her clients develop a career plan and clear action steps, and by providing objective perspectives and accountability. Her ability to see issues from the individual’s point of view as well as through the lens of the needs of the business and management contributes to her realistic, balanced approach. She specializes in new job integration, career planning and management, performance improvement, work-life balance, and personal branding.

Lauren’s credentials include a M.B.A. from the University of Colorado’s Executive Programs and a B.A. in English from Carleton College. She is a certified coach through the Coach Training Alliance (CTACC), an Emotional Intelligence certified coach through ISEI, and a DiSC facilitator.

When we "detox" our bodies, we purge them of unhealthy inputs, and provide our systems with healthy foods and nutrients to repair any damage.

To be able to identify your greatest strengths, your inherent talents, where you can be most effective and valuable?

Take this job and... you can probably fill in the blank. Research has found that is what an astounding number of employees seem to be thinking: According to a 2010 report by Mercer, nearly one third of US workers are seriously considering leaving their jobs, up from 23% in 2005. Fewer than 1 in 3 employees worldwide (31%) are engaged. Nearly 1 in 5 (17%) are actually disengaged. Engagement levels vary by region from 37% in India to 17% in China. When someone wields influence, or is able to effectively persuade others, it is a powerful skill. The ability to influence others allows us to be heard, effect change, manage and lead more effectively, and ultimately get us more directly to what we want out of work and life.

I have an on-again, off-again relationship with "passion." First of all, I think it is a tremendously overused term in our current cultural dialogue. It has become synonymous with a panacea -- there is a sense that if you find your "passion" that everything will be perfect - you'll be ecstatically happy, make millions doing it, stop global warming and have more time with your family. And maybe you will (or at least come close), because I have seen people do that.

Periodically, we may find ourselves at a crossroads in our career -- a point where there may be several possible paths or directions we can choose. The road we have been on is either coming to an end, or there are new options intersecting it that force us to make directional choices. We come to such a crossroads for a myriad of reasons: • A layoff or other involuntary release from a previous job. • Voluntary departure from a previous job, but without anything lined up to follow it. • Frustration when we feel our true potential is not perceived by others.r

Whether it is an irritable customer, a boss or colleague with whom you do not see eye to eye, a tension-filled meeting, or a disagreement with a family member, we all need skills to navigate these waters successfully.

What stops you from living an audaciously brilliant life? Fears can be a powerful force holding you back from what you desire. Fears come from a place deep within us that at one stage in our evolution kept us alive. At the dawn of humankind, fear of change and the unknown kept us from crossing that big river (and potentially drowning), or from leaving the tribe (and being eaten by something fierce), or running about in the dark (and perhaps falling into a ravine).

Have you ever looked at someone else and wondered "how in the world did she ever pull THAT off?" Maybe it was getting a big raise when company finances were tight, or creating a brand new, exciting position for herself, or even breaking the "rules" of how things are "supposed" to work? How DID she do that? We'll get to that in a second. Beliefs and fears dictate how we perceive the world, ourselves, and our expectations (we look at fears in more detail in a separate article).
