A good number of Artists find themselves short on time when it comes to merchandising and promoting only to become frustrated because they are not consistently moving forward, gaining public recognition, and financial gain. Making It As An Artist is a guide to help both skilled and emerging artists contend with these issues as they proceed in the art profession.
The following is a selection from the book, Making It As An Artist. It is my hope that this book will be an effective instructional resource to increase your understanding of Artists, the art profession and the significance of enjoying every person.
FULFILL YOUR PURPOSE AND THE ATTENTION WILL FOLLOW
Eevry person is created with a unique personality that cannot be duplicated. Put that exclusivity to work in your favor. Create in a way that comes only from your heart. The public pays attention to that which is real, and the authentic Artist that fits that description is no different. It is all right to be different from others; otherwise, you will become stagnant in your personal growth as well as in your career by following what everyone else is following, and doing what others are doing. Fill your life with people who are caring and supportive and those who love you for who you are. Seeking out those who can engage you by their own uniqueness will enable you to become successful and victorious. Allow your outlook to be set free through the art medium for others to enjoy and to benefit from.
Ask yourself what you are looking to gain from your passion of art. Are you looking for money and riches? Fame? Recognition? Notoriety? Status? What price do you place on creation? Set your sights on fulfilling your passion to create rather than pursuing the attention and glamour. Fulfill your purpose and the attention will follow. With some patience and determination, you will be successful and find yourself trying to escape the attention that it brings. By no means should you compromise your vision and what you and your art stand for. Unfortunately, I have witnessed this compromise in Artists who carelessly did anything asked in order to gain footing in the art business.
What they thought would be their big break in the art world turned out only to temporarily satisfy their ego without any long-term positive results or advancement. It is easy to see how an Artist could stray from their vision due to the pressure involved in this highly competitive field. Taking a slow and steady approach allows your personal growth to develop along with the increased recognition.
Through the course of time, this solid personal foundation will enable you to withstand and overcome any pressure that would otherwise intimidate and confine. At the onset of my career, I too could have succumbed to the pressure of gaining attention if it were not for stepping back with a disce
ing eye to look at the greater picture. By unhurriedly pacing my professional growth, I have laid a foundation endowed with integrity and credibility. This earned respect satisfies my avant-garde personality by clearing a path for my art to achieve its purpose. The key again, is to be yourself and allow your talent to be the vehicle that spreads your unique, profound perspective with a message that can be anything from simple to life changing. It is up to you to decide what purpose your art will serve and then permit it to expose your total being and your heart, freely.
