Takeaway: iPhone and Android application developers claim #1 spot in a ranking of the hottest IT career paths for the future.
ITCareerFinder.com, a world-class information portal and online community for career-minded IT professionals, launched its inaugural guide to the “Best Computer Jobs for the Future” in May of 2012. This innovative publication ranks the top ten computer career paths from 2013 to 2020, including deep dive job profiles, salary comparisons, IT insider tips and key growth factors for each position.
The influential IT startup forecasted this decade’s hottest computer jobs through a four-point weighted analysis of employment growth projections from the U.S. Dept. of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook 2012 – 2013 Edition, dynamic salary data from Indeed.com, ratio of job openings to qualified professionals on major technology job boards, and career advancement potential taken from tech sector hiring trends and interviews with technology executives and IT subject matter experts.
The mobile application developer career path easily won the top spot; contributing factors included the proliferation of mobile devices, unprecedented demand for new and innovative apps, an average starting salary over $95,000, an industry leading 32% ten-year growth forecast (that's 292,000 new jobs from 2010 to 2020), and the disproportionately low number of qualified mobile app developers to available job openings. Database administrators, software engineers, video game designers and network administrators rounded out the top five computer jobs respectively. Read the full top 10 list at http://goo.gl/ZYB6Q.
“Mobile application development is home to one of the largest skills gaps ever realized in IT employment; there are simply more job openings than trained & talented mobile developers to fill them. This is especially true for mobile app developers who specialize in Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad & iPod) and Google Android application development, as almost 90% of mobile devices in circulation in the U.S. run on one of these two platforms,” says Daniel Greenspan, IT Career Consultant & Founder of ITCareerFinder.
