Be There

There are times when situations happen to others and we don’t really know what to say or do. We feel like we need to something to help them with the hurt they have but our words are just not enough. We want to do something, take some type of action, but nothing we do would really help them. Those are the times we need to just be there for them. Those are the times we need to pray for God’s comfort to ease their pain. Those are the times we need to listen when they are ready to talk.

Galatians 6:2 “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

Just being there for someone will help them know we are supporting them. They will understand we care and are ready to help in whatever way they need. Just being there will give them support and encouragement so they know they don’t have to go through things alone. Just being there may take their mind off of the situation and on to something else.

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.”

Praying for God to ease their pain will help them know we are bringing in the Best. God is the answer to our good times and our bad times. When we go to Him in all situations, we can see what He wants us to learn. We can pray with them or we can pray silently. The important thing is that we pray and let them know God can take control of the situation so they don’t have to worry or be in pain any longer.

James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

When they are ready to talk, we can listen. Sometimes there are no words to say in return and there is no reason to say anything at all. We should just sit still and give them time to let everything out. If we tried to say something, it may not be what they need to hear so it may be good just keep our mouths shut and our ears open.

Proverbs 17:27 “A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.”

If we try to get too involved in other people’s problems, we could make matters worse. We may have good intentions to help but misunderstandings could surface because feelings are already sensitive. When we try to fix things ourselves without asking God to help us, the message He is trying to convey to us and to them may not be revealed. When issues come up, we should go to God so He can make the difference.

Sometimes when we try to do for others or say the right thing when they are hurting, we aren’t really helping. Sometimes when we want to do what we believe is best, we really make things worse. If we will support others when they are going through hard times by just being there, praying and listening, God will reveal to us what our next move should be. It may be no move at all but to be there, pray and listen.
