I once saw my mom pick up a penny that she somehow saw in the middle of a parking lot. She waved it in the air as if it were a blessing, and placed it carefully into her purse. I asked my how she was able to see that penny? She said that pennies are everywhere, and that all you have to do is look.
I was a little skeptical about it at first, but then one day at the grocery store, I found a penny right in the middle of the parking lot. Soon, I started seeing a quarter here, and a dime over there. I would find money at least once a week in the most random of places all because I just started looking for it.
At first, I thought this is like that phenomenon when you a car, and all of a sudden you notice everyone has your car. So, being who I am, I started to experiment with the phenomenon. Instead of seeing pocket change, I wanted to see if I could find a whole dollar, or maybe even a twenty-dollar bill. Then one day, I pulled out a winter coat, and I found a twenty-dollar bill in one of my pockets! Then I started finding random money all around the house!
I continued the experiment, and wondered what would happen if I tried to find success stories. What would I find? As soon as I was resolved to find success stories, I not only started to find stories of success more often, I started to focus less on the failures in my own life, and started remembering more of my successes. I actually started to feel more successful everyday.
I took the experiment to another level, and decided to see if I could find love. And sure enough, I found love everywhere. I would see people offering random acts of kindness. I would find myself being more compassionate to others. And one day, I started to have more compassion and love for myself. As opened myself up to the possibility of giving love and receiving love, I found more love in my life in general.
My experiment did not teach me that if I look for start looking for money, success, and love in my life that I would automatically find money, success, and love in my life. My experiment taught me that the reason why my parents are so good with money is because they are always mindful of their money. The experiment taught me that I was not always mindful (or mind full) of money; I was actually mindless. I found that twenty-dollar bill in my pocket because I neglected my money. My mind was not full of money; my mind was empty when it came to thoughts of money. The experiments taught me that by being obsessed with my failures, I would fail to see my successes. I discovered that if I am closed off in giving love and receiving love, that I would not see love anywhere. It was only when I was mindful of money, success, and love that I started to see it everywhere.
We are what our minds are full of. To find love, money, and success, your mind has to be full (mindful) of love, money, and success. You have to believe they are everywhere around you, and that it’s just a matter of finding them. If you want to try this for yourself, I would suggest that you start with something small. Start with a penny.
