We all need to breathe its fundamental to life itself but, believe it or not there is a right and wrong way to breath.
I know because being an asthmatic all of my life my parents made sure that each week I went to a breathing clinic in order to learn the correct techniques invaluable when being in the midst of an attack which for those of you who do not know, it restricts the airways making them narrow, causing wheezing and shortness of breather
What actually is breathing? A process that moves air in and out of the lungs, breathing in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. Once the carbon dioxide is expelled from the body it results in the loss of water. Vital for all is that we drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day.
The breath that you take either contributes to your health in a beneficial way or on the reverse side it contributes to illness, which, if you stop and think for a moment it becomes a disturbing reality
The body mind and soul are connected and correct breathing will aid Optimum health. Breathing is voluntary and we breathe voluntarily through our noses. If you breathe through your mouth it is not voluntary, most probably learnt as a trigger response, triggered through emergency stress. This is actually true when an asthma attacks begins, because suddenly the mind informs the body that it can no longer breathe through the nose, therefore, its best to use the mouth.
The nose has been designed for optimum health, fine hairs within the nostrils filter dust and microbes from the air with the help of mucous membranes that additionally add moisture to the air that enters the lungs. Breathing through the nose prevents infections, whilst breathing through the mouth can actually cause infection.
I would like to share with you a relaxation technique that can be done pretty much anywhere and it can last as long or short a time as you have available.
Sit or lie, which ever is appropriate.
1. Put your arms to the side of you.
2. Tilt your head to one side
3. Relax your eyes
4. Relax your tongue( by not having it stuck to the roof of your mouth)
5. By doing both of these you will automatically relax your body
6. Shallow breath
7. Immediately, you will notice a tingling sensation running throughout your body.
8. You will find yourself in a place that is serene
This technique can be done to stop you becoming over stressed during the working day.
We all need to strive to achieve Optimum Health.
