New research has found that an algae-derived compound called carrageenan is a powerful weapon against the virus that causes cervical cancer and various sexually-transmitted diseases. It is an extract of red algae – a type of seaweed found in the northern Atlantic Ocean. Carrageenan is purely natural with superior moisturizing properties and many potential health benefits. Carrageenan has been used as a food additive and thickener for hundreds of years and a vegan/vegetarian alte
ative to gelatin, and is now being studied as a topical microbicide to help protect women from cervical cancer, STDs and HIV.
Cervical cancer is especially common in the United States, where around 10,000 women are diagnosed each year and about 10 die every day. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has found that carrageenan inhibits the infectious ability of the viruses that cause cervical cancer and certain STDs. The test-tube study proved carrageenan to be nearly a thousand times greater in potency than other inhibitors tested, according to NCI researchers. Of all the substances tested, the red algae extract proved to be extremely potent as it prevents the harmful viruses to interact or enter the cervical cells.
The Population Council (PC) has received hundreds of millions of dollars in funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates and Rockefeller Foundations to support microbicide research efforts which include studies on carrageenan-based formulas. Carrageenan has also been proven to play an inhibiting role against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the lentivirus that causes AIDS.
DreamBrands, which is well-anchored in health, wellness and sustainability, utilizes an exclusive proprietary blend of carrageenan as the main ingredient for their topical lubricant conveniently called Carrageenan™ as part of their Oceanus Naturals product line. The DreamBrands research team, spearheaded by Gary and Cecile Kehoe, has spent years researching and developing this remarkable personal lubricant, which is the first and only 100% natural personal lubricant formulated to support women’s sexual wellness with additional health benefits far and above the relief of vaginal dryness.
“We wanted to help women enhance the quality of their sex lives with a natural lubricant as opposed to a chemical or synthetic one. As a woman in my 50s, I understand and have personally experienced menopause, and Carrageenan™ is ideal for extra lubrication,” says co-inventor Cecile Kehoe, a chemist by training.
Carrageenan™ Personal Lubricant is a water-based formula containing all-natural ingredients designed for women’s health and pleasure.
Organic Aloe – naturally soothes and sustains healthy sensitive tissue
Organic Agave Inulin – prebiotic that helps women maintain healthy microflora
Vitamin E – fights free radicals and soothes and sustains healthy sensitive tissue
Citric acid – pH balancing ingredient
This all-natural, sea plant-based product, is intended to replicate the body’s own natural fluids and contains NO silicone, petroleum-based glycol, parabens, glycerin or other harsh chemicals. Carrageenan™ is a rich gel that dispenses easily and stays where you put it. As it warms to body temperature, it changes from a gel to a moisture-rich lubricant – a unique physical benefit that scientists refer to as “thixotropic.”
Carrageenan™ Personal Lubricant is available for purchase nationally at retailers such as Albertsons, Hi-Health, Whole Foods, H-E-B, Meijer or on-line at: http://www.oceanusnaturals.com/all-natural-lubricant.php
