I had a dream several months back that was so amazing, I decided to share it with the world. I was outside of a house with strangers I didn’t recognize. A lady walked out and shouted out to us: “Seize the day! Stop what you are doing right now and live in this moment!” I awoke immediately after receiving this advice. It left me with such a warm feeling. It was such a wonderful piece of advice. It inspired me to look up the phrase “seize the day” to see what sort of informatio
I could come across.

Seize the day is a translated from the Latin phrase “Carpe diem!” It basically is summed up to mean just what the lady told me to do in my dream: Live in this moment. Do not dwell on the past or worry about the future. Live in the present and set out to do what matters to you.

After thinking about it, I realized that, for quite some time, I had been allowing myself to just go through the motions of life, but in actuality, I wasn’t really living at all. I was stressed out and miserable from what was going on in my life, but wasn’t bothering to take any steps to change things. I was so consumed with regrets from my past and a fear of the future, that I wasn’t making any use of my present; and let me tell ya, I am the Queen of intention. I don’t know how many times a day I spit out the words: “I need to…,” “I keep forgetting to…,” “I want to…,” and “I’m going to…” Too bad I don’t have a dime for every time I said one of those phrases. I’d have a pretty nice savings account built up by now.

I’m also the Queen of excuses. I blame everything I can for my own procrastination: too much homework, too tired from work, too much housework, the kids keep interrupting me, etc. Granted, they are all true but a little organization and re-prioritizing can fix that problem.

Needless to say, I’ve been working on bringing myself out of my bad habits. I definitely believe that dream was a wake-up call to get me on the right path. It has reminded me that I need to stress less and focus on what really matters.

There are always going to be distractions that try to throw us off track, but with focus and determination we can keep ourselves heading in the right direction–putting our precious talents and gifts into the things that really matter. So take the advice from my dream:

Carpe diem! Seize the day!
