During this time of rising outside temperatures, it is important when working outside to be sure to stay hydrated. The human body is about 60%-70% water. Our brains are 70% water, while our blood is 80% and our lungs 90% water. Yet, 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. This can lead to serious physical conditions.

It only takes a loss of about 2% of one’s normal water volume for dehydration symptoms to become noticeable. The symptoms may come on suddenly such as weakness, fatigue, fuzzy short-term memory or lack of concentration. When you start feeling thirsty and uncomfortable, your body may already be dehydrated. Other symptoms include loss of appetite and dry skin, low endurance, rapid heart rates, elevated body temperatures, rapid onset of fatigue and joint pain. Add to this a possible sun stroke when out in the sun doing work and you have something to be conce
ed about.

Lack of water causes many problems in the body. It is the biggest cause of daytime fatigue. Whenever you experience fatigue, pour yourself a glass of filtered water and notice the difference in how you feel. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

Other benefits of drinking good quality water include decreasing the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer and bladder cancer and a much lower risk of fatal coronary heart disease compared to those who drink less than two glasses per day. The study also shows that by drinking more water, healthy people can reduce their risk of dying from a heart attack by 50% or even more. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

It would be necessary to consume at least 5 glasses of water. One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study. In some people, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. This is a good habit to get into. Keeping water with you reminds you to drink. Be careful not to leave your water in the heat in a plastic bottle.

The water that should be consumed each day is plain water, not tea or coffee or soft drinks.
This is one thing that we can easily do for ourselves.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?
