De-Stress Your Busy Life

There is an epidemic in cities everywhere and the epidemic is stress. We see the signs/effects of stress everywhere. Communities, support systems, self-care, parenting, spirituality, and physical health are being negatively affected by our responses to being overwhelmed, stressed, and unfulfilled. We thought the Palm Pilot, Internet, and ATM made our lives easier. Instead, we are feeling deprived of human contact and community. People rarely wave at complete strangers let alone call dear friends and family. We feel more obligated and depleted than ever.
The biochemical damage that occurs with constant stress cannot be underestimated. Heart, mind, and body diseases are running rampant despite our sophisticated medical technology.
Here are some tips of integrating abundance and stress management into your day:
Being in Nature
How often do you connect to the simplicity and beauty of nature? If you are not connecting with nature, you may not feel connected to the Earth or the beauty around you.
Setting intention for growth
Do you make your goals and desires a significant part of your day? We can set our intention to grow and strive for goals. When we live on autopilot saving goals for “someday”, or not articulating our desires, we live out of obligations/routines and forget to grow.
Physically relaxing
If you relax every single day, you will be more gracious, peaceful, patient, and kind. Spend at least 20 minutes of relaxation listening to meditation/relaxing music, taking a bubble bath, being quiet in your mind, soaking your feet, being grateful, etc. to rejuvenate your mind and body.
Prioritizing our to do list and simplifying
When we decide to become an active participant in our to-do list, we take control of what activities and obligations fill our day. Limit what gets put on your list and integrate “self” time and relaxation activities and watch stress melt away.
Saying NonSaying no is healthy and necessary to ensure “self-time” is nonnegotiable. We live with “I should help at Cindy’s, I should be on the board, I should help with the potluck, I should make the team banner, etc. Take some items off and replace those hours or minutes with relaxation time. When you “should” yourself, you live from obligation and guilt instead of authenticity and generosity. Do less and live more!
Abundance and Scarcity in thinking
I have developed two concepts regarding the thoughts that fill our minds in a single day. We think tens of thousands of thoughts per day. We are unaware of what fills our thoughts; however, a decision to make our thoughts conscious can expose all of the negativity and junk that fills our minds. What negative messages do you say to yourself? Do you check in with your thoughts? Changing scarce thoughts into thoughts of hope, abundance, and gratitude can calm your thinking and improve how you “show up in the world”. Take time to clear your thoughts and when thoughts come up during this time, notice they are present and reframe them into thought of abundance.
Connection to our support system
Make sure that you connect with your "tribe" everyday. Make a phone call, send a card or email, have a conversation, make a lunch date with those you love and truly connect with your support system.
Gratitude
Often, our society is consumed with what is lacking. People forget to be grateful for shelter, food, family, friends, toilet paper, a vehicle, running water, and refrigerators. When you are grateful for the simple modern conveniences, you notice hundreds or thousands of things to be grateful for. We can say, “thank goodness I have a car or my car in old and doesn’t have a GPS” or “I have a safe and warm home or my house is too small, I have ugly kitchen counters, I live on a busy street”. What consumes your day?
Conscious thinking
Nobody is holding any of your thoughts for you. You decide what fills your thinking, your soul, and your body. You can choose to be mindful, conscious, and abundant or live in a scarce and negative manner repeating the old stories in your mind.
Present Moment
Do you live in the now or in the past or in the future? The past is gone and will never be changed. The future hasn’t happened. All you have is this exact moment…why waste it!
