Are you tired of shopping for the traditional tie for dad, perfume for mom or CD for a sibling? Try something different this year, gifts that provide positive energy all year long and best of all, will fit into the most modest budget.
If you want to avoid overspending money on instant gratification gifts that don’t last or may not be enjoyed or appreciated, a Feng Shui gift is both meaningful and unique. Plus, it will give the recipient some much-needed positive energy during difficult times and provide a smile during good times.
Before you start shopping, first give some thought to what would please the recipient instead of what you think they should have. Too often gifts are given based on what the giver thinks the recipient should have rather than what the recipient would love. Rather than buying something just because it’s beautiful, useful or memorable, focus on whether it will have the intended effect on the receiver. Will the recipient:
- love it
- treasure it
- find it useful
- be inspired by it
- receive positive energy from it
Giving or exchanging gifts should be a mutually enjoyable occasion. It should not matter whether you are simply giving a person a gift because he or she is special or if there is a gift exchange happening. What matters is that an uplifting joy-filled event takes place with each person receiving positive energy. The giver of the gift will automatically receive positive energy if the recipient loves their gift. And, the recipient will love his or her gift — if you’ve done your homework.
Feng Shui Gift Ideas
Try some of the following ideas for giving the perfect Feng Shui gift that will be remembered and appreciated long after the baked goods are eaten and the holiday decorations are packed away:
• Gift giving is all about relationships. Your gift is symbolic of a good relationship and its positive energy. Consider a relationship gift such as two tickets to a movie or concert that can be shared, or a gift certificate to the recipient’s favorite restaurant or ice cream shop. Or you can use a repurposed bud vase with two beautiful silk flowers. Ask the recipient to place it in the relationship area (southwest) of their home or living room to symbolize the positive energy you share.
• Give a gift of music. Find Feng Shui, Yoga or Meditation music online or in a local shop. This kind of music lifts the spirit, helps eliminate stress and nourishes the soul. It also encourages the recipient to take time to care for themselves through meditation, yoga or Tai Chi.
• Create a “quiet time” gift. For the recipient who likes to journal, find a spiritual or angelic-themed notebook created just for jou
aling and add a pretty pen. For someone who likes to meditate, give a candle in a safe container or a pretty container to use with incense.
• Make a money pot. Purchase a small wooden container with a lid (repurpose one if you have the right piece) and place seven silver dollar coins in it or seven Feng Shui good luck coins. Inform the recipient that it should be placed in the southeast area of their living room or office to encourage prosperity and income energy. This is the perfect gift for a loved one, a business colleague, boss, client or friend.
• Wind chimes are a great gift. Purchase wind chimes that can range from simple and small to exotic and large. Have the recipient hang them near the front door to encourage new energy to enter their home. A hand-tuned wind chime or one made of bamboo will have a soothing sound that not only welcomes positive energy and guests but creates a sense of calm.
• Creating a Memories Gift. Purchase an inexpensive photo album (table size or pocket size) and fill it with a few photos of the recipient with family members and friends – let them add to it to continue the memories. Or create a collage filled with years of happiness. Have them hang the collage in the northeast corner of their family room to bring them helpful people energy. They will truly appreciate the gesture and the fond memories it represents.
Giving the right kind of gift isn’t about spending a ton of money – and it certainly doesn’t need to be stressful. It is about focusing on the recipient’s preferences and the meaning of the gift, rather than the price tag.
What you really want to accomplish is to use positive energy (the giving of a gift) to bring about a desired result (nurturing, loving and uplifting energy for the recipient). If they love, want or need the gift you have chosen, you have given them real joy and at the same time you will receive genuine uplifting energy.
