Written by Luka Malgaj
While stress comes and goes for most people, for some it never goes away. Such people will show poor performance, be very irritable and lost their temper over trivial things. One of the most important things to do in such cases is get help. Unless it’s out of control, it need not be a professional. Even your friends and family can give you simple stress management techniques that you will be able to follow. You can also find some solutions in books, magazines or on the internet.
Some of the most common causes of stress are unfinished work, approaching deadlines and very little time to relax. Naturally the solution is proper time management. When work overwhelms you, have a schedule and be organized. Before you accept a certain amount of workload, calculate if you can finish it without having to work overtime. Never skip sleep because you have a lot of work to do. You will be slower the next day and you will get less done than if you had a good night’s sleep.
When you are trying to set a schedule, split your work into units and prioritize. Knowing what should be finished when will give you an idea of how fast you should work. Just knowing what needs to be done will give you a sense of control over your life. This can reduce your stress to the normal level and it will pass when the job is done. Most of the time people won’t really know what they are stressed about. They just know there is a lot to worry about tomorrow. Avoid procrastinating work for the next day work will end up getting piled up leading to stress. Organizing will keep things in control and knowing what can go wrong and how to deal with it will also take a lot of stress out.
Work while you work and play while you play is an excellent way to be efficient. While at work, don’t waste time and work when you are not taking a break. This will help you get your work done early and you can have more spare time to do what you enjoy after work. Never let people make you feel guilty about leaving work on time if you have finished your work well. When you manage your time well and stick to a schedule, you will be surprised how mush more time you will get in a day.
