We are moving to the Family Category today. (Yes, even posted a pic from a favorite family weekend of Aly’s here). We were tempted to jump into the Career or Financial Category, but we want to cover Family first because when you begin to shape your career brand, you will want to first be clear on all the other priorities that matter to you. That way, you will be projecting to customers what you do (and don’t) stand for. You’ll be projecting your “Why” above and beyond your products and services, and THAT is proven to sell more.

So we cover the Family Category with the understanding that everyone’s definition varies. What do you want your ideal family to look like? On a daily basis, do you dream of having 2.5 kids and a white picket fence? Or do you dream of a single, high rise and fast paced adventure? Whatever your definition, make it yours. Remember, we are going for your WHAT here, and not yet the how. What do you want it to look like in your ideal scenario?

Your homework today: In your notebook, write out what you want your daily, ideal family life to look like. (The list might be long). Some examples:

We have dinner together at least 4/wkr
We have date night with no kids at least 2/mor
I want to fly to see my parents at least 2/yrr
I want to re-connect with my cousinsr
I want to be the hero for my kids/spouser
I want to be a great example of ________ for them.
I want to be at home alone and watch a movie with the dog every Thursday.
You get the idea…no right or wrong here. Take your time.

Part TWO of your homework: If applicable, connect with your spouse and compare lists. First listen to their list and make sure you are facilitating those items as long as it is not at the expense of yours. Second, share your list with them and empower them to help you live this priority every day. Just knowing what is important to each other matters!

Next time, we’ll be talking about HOW to make these things happen. Later, we’re moving on to additional categories….
