I have to say that the saying that winners never quit is absolutely true. A winner must persevere in the face of overwhelming odds and be blindly determined to win whatever the encounter happens to be. A winner has to be totally sold out to the cause in order to win otherwise he or she will stop when the going gets too tough. The cause will have to be bigger than the person in the mind of the person before he or she will be willing to do everything necessary to win. The Vietnam War comes into mind as I write this. The Vietnamese people had everything to lose and gain from the war and they effectively won against a larger more powerful army. They went to the extreme in their efforts to win but they did all that they had to do. This is probably not the best example to use but nevertheless it gets the point across. Are you sold out to your cause? It will take nothing less to make you a winner. One thing that I have noticed is the word lose doesn’t seem to be a part of the winner’s vocabulary. Don’t allow doubt and confusion to creep into your mind. Confidence or doubt can both turn into what I call self fulfilling prophecies. If you don’t believe that you can win then you won’t. The television series Kung Fu comes into mind also as I write this article. Each show began with the same scene. In the scene the master held a small stone in his hand. The student had to attempt to snatch the stone from him before he could close his fist. In the first attempt the student failed. The next attempt shows the same situation after years of training and this time the student successfully snatches the stone from the master. The master then announces to the student that it is time for him to leave the monastery. The kicker to the story is this: The students hand speed was no faster at the end than it was in the beginning. The only reason that he wasn’t fast enough in the beginning was because he just didn’t believe that he was fast enough. All of the training that he had in the years between attempts did not make that much difference in his speed at all. The distance which he had to cover was only a few inches anyway. The problem in the beginning was that the student didn’t believe that he could successfully snatch the pebble from the master’s hand. All of the interim training did was to make him confident in his abilities. When a martial artist breaks a board he or she must believe that the board will break under the force of their blow. If they are not confident fear will cause them to slow their strike. The board breaker has to give all of his ability and effort to breaking the board. This is the same mindset that the winner has to have. Anything less will not carry you through the adversity that you have to go through to get to your final destination. One lesson that I have learned the hard way is that a winner never rests on his or her laurels. The winner is internally driven that it doesn’t matter what the opponent is doing at any particular time. The real winner is always one or two steps ahead of the field. When we look at US military technology we can see how the United States is always on the cutting edge. Other counties will allow us to create the products and then steal the secrets but that only insures that they are always a step behind us. Don’t accept defeat in your life. Determine that you are going to win and then push until you reach your goal. Riceland Enterprises
