Gain Confidence: Run Your Own Race

Nothing great is ever accomplished when you compare yourself to others. You just liveeach day defeated and depressed, as you zero in on other people's stuff and boldly ignore all the magnificence you possess. You can gain confidence, self empowerment, and encouragement by learning how to run your own race. When you do you'll gain a new sense of who you are and the distinct space you hold in the world.
Don't Look Around Look Inside
Forget about what others do, give, and receive. Just focus on you. All the energy you spend wondering what others have and how others "manage to get ahead" is energy you take away from you. Creative energy you could pour into all the corners of your life.
Use your energy to reflect on the gifts you've been given. How you embrace them, shape them, and share them to impact your world. How does your gift spill into the life of others? Make no mistake. . . it does. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to figure out how.
Take comfort in knowing that no one . . . can be amazing in your way. And, when you fool yourself into believing others can, you rob the world of you.
So don't shrink and shrivel, by looking around at what others have to offer.
Look inside of you. If every flower decided not to bloom, because of the flower next to it, our world would have no variety of color. No one can be amazing in your way.
Only Compare You to Your
The world's best runners and swimmers acknowledge one opponent in every race, themselves. Their goal is to shave seconds off their last race. In essence, they aim to "do better" than they ever have before.
You must only compare you to you.
How can you do that? Think of an area in your life, where you've done better today than yesterday. That's self empowerment. Maybe you went to bed 30 minutes earlier and enjoyed more sleep. Think of an area where you've done better this month than last month. Maybe you've excelled in one particular place this year where you struggled last year. That's the beginning of empowering you.
Measure how you've grown you.
Remember that height chart you loved as a child? When you stood in the doorway to measure how much you'd grown? You only compared you to YOU.

I never think of myself as a pack rat. Maybe the love of much. Maybe too much? But there are times when I look around the house and I can’t find the dog or I delve into drawers and come up empty handed or I find myself crawling around closet floors in search of a runaway shoe. I end up ...

One of the comics that I admired for her sharp observational humor is Carol Leifer. Well, Carol just published a very funny book called, "When You Lie About Your Age, The Terrorists Win." She writes about embracing her life and her age and her writing is insightful and hilarious. I just had the good fortune to interview Carol about her life and her new book. ec. We both grew up on Long Island but we never had any play dates together. Another thing we have in common were fathers who were both naturally very funny.

ec: Before we delve into the subject of Intuition and how it has impacted your life, in all areas of your life, can you give us your definition of Intuition?
