Get Your D.I.N. Degree, Do It Now or You May Miss The Boat.

A Self Help Motivational Article. By Shirley Carton © 2009

I was given advise from my Grandmother, as a child, never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. However when I grew up as an adult, I always seemed to have so many responsibilities. I had listened to her and I did become efficient and orderly. I could get so much more done, in a short time, and I definitely became a workaholic. I always completed as many tasks as I could before I went to bed. I never started anything that I didn’t finish. Taking care of everyone else’s needs but neglecting my own. Living where everyone else wanted to live, taking holidays where everyone else wanted to go. Always more conce
ed about keeping the peace and harmony with everyone rather that what I might have wanted to do.

I am sure there are millions of people who have done the same thing. We make so many excuses as to why we put ourselves last. There is a negative side to this scenario and a positive side. Giving of oneself to take care of others is to be selfless. This is a rare and commendable characteristic. However on the other hand, This is your life, to be who you want to be, to do what you want to do, and to achieve what you want to achieve, and to live your life to the full.

It Is Never To Late. So, If you have lived three quarters of your life, being the dad, the mom, the grandfather, the grandmother, the breadwinner or the family nurturer, the coach, the mentor, the referee, the problem solver and carer, etc etc. Maybe the fourth quarter is to be YOUR TIME.

It is never to late to fulfill your dreams. People sometimes go to university when they retire.
Some start a business when they get their superannuation. Some sell the family home and buy a small beach house with amazing views. People go off as a missionary when they retire. Some take a round the world trip. Some learn to become a chef, an artist, a singer or play an instrument.

What do you want to do and see before you leave this earth? Please do not say you can’t because you don’t have the expertise!
Experts built the Titanic, and Amatures built Noah’s Ark.

Is it your internal desire, to see the seven wonders of this earth, or go to the moon, sail the seven seas, visit the pygmies, the Eskimo’s, the native American Indians,or are you seeking enlightenment?

If you always dream of seeing more, do not forget to look for the treasure’s you may have missed behind your own front door. What have you missed there, because you were so busy to look carefully, and to see fully...

Have you used your five senses fully? To see clearly. To hear every sound. To touch with love and sensitivity. To taste with clarity all that is contained within. To feel the Power within, To laugh with such joy, you felt totally invigorated. To love all the people of this earth and the awesome wonders in the great universe. The best things in life really are free.

Turn back the hands of time and take a walk back to your childhood. What did you dream of doing when you were Six years old, or Ten, or Fifteen and that dream disappeared, and was forgotten while you were learning to juggle everyday responsibilities.

Here are a few examples.
I met a man many years ago who was a orthopedic surgeon, he had everything, a wonderful wife and children, a beautiful riverside home, owned his own medical centre and achieved great financial wealth. Unfortunately, He had a total mental breakdown and spent a long time in an institution.
After a few years of therapy he revealed that he felt he was living someone else’s dream, being what his parents had wanted him to be, doing what they had dreamed he would be. How sad is that!
He said that his dream, as a child was to be a photographer, traveling the world taking pictures of distant unseen things. He decided to go and pursue his dream as therapy to get well. He left his life, left every thing to his wife, and went off with a suitcase and a camera to be who he new in his heart , he was meant to be. He took some of the worlds greatest photographs.

I also met a young man named Andrew, while I was working as a volunteer in a rehabilitation unit.
He had collapsed on the university grounds and the doctors couldn’t find anything physically wrong with him, so they treated him for a mental condition. My job was to encourage conversation, play games with them, and eat with them. Andrew told me his father wanted him to follow in his shoes as a doctor. Andrews passion had always bee
History, he wanted to be a historian. He opened up to me and I encouraged him to write. He didn’t just write, he also drew. He was amazing, he knew everything about every time in history. Names, Places, People, Clothing, Food. He wrote and he drew history as cartoons with funny but true captions. When his first book was finished, I took it to the university that he had attended. There were impressed and agreed to publish it. They gave him a book launch and enrolled him to major in history.

“ Better to follow ones own path uncharted, than to follow another’s path already successful.”

Another story is about a young man who ran away from home, to become a monk in a monastery, High up the Himalayan Mountains in India. He studied there for twenty years. One day he awoke with a desire to go home and reunite with his family. He had a Hessian bag of stones that he had collected as payment for work he did in the flatland. He sold enough of them to pay his airfare home.
This move was a disaster, he was so unhappy and his family couldn’t relate to him. One day he said to me, Shirley I want to go home to my family in the monastery, could you help me get back to India. He said that he still had some stones. We took them to a collector, and he exchanged enough of them to buy a ticket back to India. He was so happy.
Waving goodbye to him was both a happy and sad experience for me, he taught me so much about spirituality, and he was such a beautiful calm loving happy person. I carry him with me in my heart, and think of him remembering his amazing unbelievable spiritual stories.

My late husband Jeoffry Carton was born in India, and he went to the Christian Brothers Boarding School, in the Himalayan Mountains. He personally new quite a few Indian guru’s, and his stories were also unbelievable, but very fascinating. .
Juliette De Bairacli Levy’s story is about following ones own path and she ended up making healing miracles happen. To get there, she followed the Gypsies, the American Indians, and traveled to several other countries to learn all about natural, ancient, medicinal, herbal, healing remedies. Juliette wrote three books.

Whatever your dreams, Whatever you want to do, Wherever you want to go, Whoever you want to be, Give yourself a D.I.N degree and Do it Now.

Don’t put off until Tomorrow, what you can do today.
There Are Only So Many Tomorrows. Make your Plans , Life is to short, don’t risk missing the boat. It is never to late.

Life is not meant for us to arrive at our grave in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid into heaven broadside yelling, WOW what a ride.

May your path be of your own choosing and may your life be a joyful ride.
