Have you ever wondered if you should buy into the organic way of life. After reading Beth Greer's Super Natural Home; finding out that the author had escaped a major operation to her neck and shoulder where a lump had grown, I decided to investigate further. The author avoided surgery after going to a retreat to think over her prognosis. During this retreat, she was introduce alte
ative ways of living and she started eating organic foods. Within a month the lump was gone. This is the lump that three doctors had no other solutions for but to operate. How many other similar diagnoses are being made on a daily basis?
This got me thinking that, I too, could be harming my body due to my unconscious eating habits. Why would I want to fill my body with pesticides? Surely if I picked a tomato from the garden, I would not spray it with pesticides before eating it!
I took some time to research and without becoming a fanatic, I am slowly introducing organic grocery items into my weekly shopping. Yes, most organic foods are more expensive, so what I do is buy what I can afford and try to buy what I consume the most.
If you can't find or afford organic, or locally grown, then take a look at this list of foods to avoid for non-organic produce:
The "Dirty Dozen"
Apples
Cherriesr
Grapes, imported (Chile)
Nectarines
PeachesrnPears
Raspberries
Strawberriesr
Bell peppersr
Celery
Potatoesr
Spinach
**This list is based on studies by the Consumers Union and the Environmental Working Group.
It's good to know that some fruits and vegetables are low on pesticides.
The Magnificent Ten:
Bananas
KiwirnMangosrnPapayarnPineapples
Asparagus
Avocador
Broccoli
Cauliflowerr
Onions
This is a personal decision that you should make for yourself. As for me, I prefer to err on the side of caution. While I will be introducing more organics whenever I can, I will not become precious about it.
