What in the world does feng shui have to do with good health? Isn’t feng shui about interior design? Most people have this impression because feng shui hasn’t been around the United States very long. In fact, Feng shui is realtively new to the United States. It was introduced to us in the 1970s and hasn't really had a lot of press so most people associate this Chinese art with interior design. Cetainly there are some ways to enhance your feng shui by arranging your office and bedroom to take advantage of your best directions and maximize the flow of ch'i, but feng shui really isn't about interior design at all. n
Feng (pronounced fung and meaning wind) and shui (pronounced shway or shoo-ee and meaning water) are about the flow of visible and invisible energies in our environment. The "wind" represents direction and the "water" represents money. Classical feng shui uses compass directions to determine how to best take advantage of these seen and unseen energies while Black Hat/Black Sect/Western feng shui relies on intent to activate these energies. In my experience, the Classical forms of feng shui (Flying Stars, Eight Mansions, Compass, Form School, and Water System) are much more powerful because once you implement the activations and cures using the methods of these schools of feng shui the shift in energy is permanent. With Black Hat/Black Sect/Western feng shui you have to continuously re-set your intention because it does not rely on direction (which is the foundation on which feng shui was created) and therefore cannot "hold" the intention you set the way Classical feng shui can.
You can think about it in this way: if you decide to put a pool in your backyard by digging a hole and adding water how long will the water stay in the hole? Not long because the foundation is not there to contain the water for any length of time. But if you put in a pool by digging a hole, pouring the concrete and then adding the water the water will be there until you drain the pool.
The ba gua (pronounced bah gwah and sometimes called the paqua) is the primary key to feng shui. This handy tool tells us which directions are associated with Wealth, Relationships, Helpful People/Travel, Health/Family, Creativity/Children, Fame/Recognition, Career, and Wisdom/Knowledge guas. It also tells us which elements (fire, water, earth, metal and wood) are associated with those directions in order for us to activate these guas.
By using feng shui to create an environment that is balance and harmonious you are actually supporting your mental, emotional and physical health all at the same time. Who knew?
To activate your Health gua, place a bamboo plant in the East area of your home or office. If the East area of your home is in a bedroom, put the plant in the East area of your living room instead.
