A few weeks ago I posted about dealing with radiation exposure where I referred you to some information from herbalist Donny Yance.

“That’s fine,” some people said, “but what exactly are YOU doing for YOUR family?”

Fair enough. Here’s what the Barendregts are doing now:

Extra seaweed to boost iodine levels – mostly in the form of “seaweed snacks” which are strips of nori (sushi seaweed) marinated in soy sauce that I get from the local Asian market.

Glutathione Recycler – a powerful formula that gives the body what it needs to increase glutathione levels. Glutathione is an antioxidant made in our bodies that protects us from the oxidative stress caused by radiation as well as from other sources. Ingredients include Selenium, N-Acetyl Cysteine, Cordyceps, Gotu Kola, Milk Thistle, L-Glutamine and Alpha Lipoic Acid.

These things have been added to our pretty-much-daily protocol of:

1. A high-quality multivitamin (w/ iodine) – covering the basics, you know. Since there’s a bit of iodine in the multi, add to that the seaweed and the fact that we have been using Celtic Sea Salt for years which has a natural balance of minerals including iodine, I feel we’re pretty well covered on the iodine front. You see, the thing about iodine and radiation is that if you’re deficient in iodine, radioactive iodine that you’re exposed to will have a place to take hold in your body. This happens mainly in your thyroid gland.

2. A potent probiotic – helping our bodies detoxify, digest and keeping our immune systems strong.

3. Clean, high-quality fish oil –anti-inflammatory brain food. Keep inflammation down and the brain working well and it’s hard for anything to go wrong.

4. ClearVite and Whey Protein smoothies with greens and frozen berries – these we don’t do daily, mostly because nobody likes cleaning up the blender, but we certainly will increase their frequency if the radiation levels we’re now being exposed to continue to increase. Whey increases glutathione levels, while the ClearVite helps with detoxification and reduces inflammation systemically. The berries and greens – well, those are the real, whole foods I’ll talk about next.

Of course, it goes without saying that all these supplements are just the icing on the cake, so to speak;) of a good, healthy diet of real, whole foods including loads of apples, onions, garlic and greens.
Think brown instead of white (as in flour or rice), foods without labels, foods your great grandma would recognize. If 80% of your food looks like that, you’re doing okay.

If radiation levels start to really skyrocket where we live, will I do more than this? You bet I will! But for now, I’m comfortable with the amount of protection my family is getting from this simple protocol.
