With flu season already in progress in many areas, everyone is trying to figure out how to beat the flu. It's said that you have a 50/50 chance of being bitten by the flu bug. Is there any way you can boost your immune system to improve your chances of staying healthy? Read on to find out. 1. Take A Hike! Or at least, take a walk. Yes, it's cold outside, but forcing yourself outside every day for a half hour stroll is one of the best things you can do for your health. Once you're out there, you'll probably find that you enjoy it more than you think you will. People who brave the elements to get a daily walk in are half as likely to get a virus as the couch potatoes who hole up in the house all winter. 2. Cut The Stress One of the side effects of a daily walk is that it helps to reduce stress levels naturally. There's something about being outside that makes all those problems seem just a little less important. Stress is a killer. It also lowers your resistance to viruses and bugs. So do everything you can do get it down to manageable levels. 3. Get Plenty Of Sleep Set your sights on getting eight hours of sleep every night. Your immune system works better when you're well rested. People with chronic insomnia often get sick more often than those who sleep well. 4. Wash Your Hands Whenever You Think Of It This is such a simple tip that most people overlook it. But since the flu virus is carried on the hands, it's on just about everything you touch. Phones, keyboards, shopping carts, pencils, everything is teeming with viruses and bacteria that can make you sick. That's a cheerful thought, isn't it? So go ahead, get up and wash your hands right now! 5. Add Immune System Boosters To Your Diet Eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies is a great way to stay healthy. But sometimes you need a little something extra. These supplements can help.
  • Vitamin C - reduces frequency and severity of illness
  • Olive leaf extract - supports white blood cells
  • Astragalus - supports immune system health and functioning
  • Echinacea - helps you build immunity to whatever's going around
Of course, no list is complete without garlic. Add it to your cooking, and take it as a supplement so you get all the benefits of this amazing little bulb. You may end up with the flu bug in spite of all your precautions. It's pretty hard to avoid it completely. But if you do get bitten, at least you'll be able to fight it off faster, and recover sooner.
