So you have decided to take the plunge and join the ranks of network marketing. How do you choose the best MLM company for you? Thousands of mlm opportunites equal thousands of opinions. It can get very confusing out there, with all of the bragging going on. "My company has been around for 50 years." "My company has products backed by more research dollars." "My company makes vitamins that are the most potent on the market." "My company is better than sliced bread." "Oh yeah, well my company INVENTED sliced bread!" It gets a bit ridiculous. Truth be told, there are some specific characteristics to look for in a new mlm business opportunity. In my opinion, you want to look at the following things before making a decision: First, look at the compensation plan. Can you understand it? What exactly must you do in order to be paid? Do you make retail commissions? Commissions for sponsoring new members? Residuals (overrides) on the sales volume in your organization? Next, consider the product. Is it unique? Is it in demand? Is there value in the price? Or is it overpriced? Is it consumable? (this, of course, means repeat buyers) Then consider the company itself. Is it a brand new start up? (could be risky) After about 3 years, the company should be in a growth phase? (is it?) After about 8-10 years, the company should be mature and stable. Do your due diligence. Go out to Google and do some research. If it's publicly traded, are there any problems out there with federal regulators? Is the stock price healthy or are financial analysts conce ed?nnFinally, you must look at your potential support system. In my opinion, this is THE most critical aspect to consider. Even though new entrepreneurs are intelligent and driven, we don't necessarily have all of the essential details that we need. In fact, I would go out on a limb and say that WHO you join is more important tha WHAT you join. If your upline is clueless, how are you going to be supported in success? If you have called several people to inquire about opportunities, have they responded in a timely manner? Do they promptly return emails? Do you resonate with their personality? Look for a sponsor who knows and understands Internet Network Marketing. This is a relatively new thing for your industry. You will want guidance to do this correctly. Question your would-be sponsor about how they will train you and mentor you in this new direction. Will they help you with a personal web site? Show you how to set up your own autoresponder? Teach you how to use MySpace and Youtube to generate leads and business partners? If at first you don't find an authentic, knowledgeable leader, keep looking. It is worth the effort to carefully choose your new mlm opportunity...your ultimate success depends on it. Cathy Yeatts is a network marketer and online entrepreneur. Many years ago I was sitting in a big hall, with a lot of people, listening to a famous speaker, salesman, and marketer named Larry Thompson.
