Psoriasis comes in many different forms but the most commonly occurring is the plaque category.Over three quarters of people that have psoriasis have this particular type. Inflamed red skin lesions and scaly silvery white covering. It can occur on any part of the body but for the most usually appears on the lower back, arms, knees and elbows. Other type of Psoriasis is Guttate psoriasis and it is common in children and adolescents. There are many causes of psoriasis and it triggers in the person who remains under stress. The lesions on the skin cause pain and trouble to the patient and it is difficult to bear it. If you suspect that you may have psoriasis, the first step is to get a diagnosis from a doctor. The truth is that there are many skin conditions that may resemble psoriasis, when in fact, it may be something much more easily treated, or even cured. On the other hand, some mild skin condition may appear to be minor, when it could be an early stage, or the onset, of psoriasis. Proper diagnosis is critical. As of now there are no special blood test or diagnostic tools to diagnose psoriasis. It is determined through close examination by a trained eye, or in some cases through examination under a microscope. Knowledge Is Power Educate yourself! Each individual must, of course, make his or her own informed decision. The emphasis is on the word 'informed'. There is a ton of useful information about psoriasis in libraries; from clinics; and most immediately from the internet. Knowledge about the disease lets you know what you are facing and what you might do to fight it. Even though this article is labeled for the layman, if you have this condition, you should very quickly, through study and commitment, become an expert. Ignorance is NOT bliss… ignorance leads to stress and a worsening of the condition. Use step two to your advantage. At present there is no cure for psoriasis, but research has provided knowledge that can provide meaningful treatment. Research is increasing and a breakthrough treatment, or even a cure, may be forthcoming at any time. But even if research does not soon produce a cure, it most certainly will continue to yield additional information on how to more effectively deal with the condition. So, be aware; keep abreast of the latest; take an active role in your health by following the recommended treatment for your condition; and share your successes with others. However this disease is chronic, which keep recurring and varies on the severity from localized patches to complete body coverage. Sometimes even the toe and finger nails get affected due to this condition. Cause of Psoriasis The cause of Psoriasis is unknown, but it is believed to be due to some genetic reasons. It has been said that it is the body's way to release stress and/or negative emotions. If you want to release psoriasis from your body, find a way to relax. And take these herbs and medications. There are also several reasons that aggravate the disease, which includes excessive alcohol consumption, constipation, stress and smoking which is one the main reason which cause psoriasis. People with the diseases, frequently suffer from low self-esteem and depression. Psoriasis Treatment Now there are many treatments available to treat Psoriasis, but due to its chronic nature the disease keeps recurring and it is considered to be a challenge for physicians. During initial stages of the disease, medicated ointments is prescribed, which subsides the inflammation and itching sensation. Today there are homeopathy treatments which clam that the disease can be completely cured. The treatment of psoriasis is dependent on the area and severity of the condition, however may include topical treatments, phototherapy, or oral medications. Treatments may be periodically changed to prevent resistance developing (tachyphylaxis) and to reduce the chance of adverse reactions occurring. Treatments are now available that have been shown to stop the progression of the disease.
