‘Set your mind to it’ is a phrase we always use, but what does it really mean?

Perhaps looking within will help... (Doesn’t it always?)

If you think of your mind as a gigantic compass and your current emotion as its magnetized needle you’ll understand that how you’re feeling is one of the most sophisticated internal navigational systems you’ll ever come to know.

Without fail, your emotions will always point you in the direction of your next intended path. -- Simply put, by looking within you can precisely pinpoint your next destination.

Ask yourself. “How am I currently feeling?”

Change your settings to happiness and you’ll be guided toward happier people and happier circumstances. Change your settings to anger and, you guessed it...you’re in for a horrible day.

I was explaining this concept in a recent workshop when one of my participants asked me if it was really possible to switch our emotional mood from one extreme to another. -- For instance, from depression to bliss.

Webster’s Dictionary defines emotions as “an affective state of consciousness.”

This means when you consciously become aware of why you feel the way you do you’ll become more empowered to make better decisions on where you want to go.

A Note of Caution: Just as traveling from the lowest southern point to the highest northern point takes several differences in degrees, changing your emotional state of vibration will come with many steps. -- This means going from depression to bliss will definitely take awhile, but it can be done. All you need to understand is how to adjust your mood.

“But,” you say. “I can’t control my mood.”

To which I reply, “Nonsense! Horse pucky! Of course, you can.”

All it will take is a simple attitude adjustment...

The best way to change your emotional alignment is to model the traditional compass and follow the four cardinal points: N.E.W.S.

This fun acronym is just like the directions on a compass and can be a great reminder in setting your emotional instrument to a more positive direction.

Step 1: N = Now. Be in the now /in the present moment.

Ask yourself, “How am I currently feeling?”

Step 2: E – Elevate. Elevate your mood one level at a time. -- If you’re angry, reach for discouragement. If you’re discouraged, start feeling disapproval...

It’s okay not to be happy right away. The key is to take baby steps to keep your emotions moving in a positive direction.

Step 3: W – Welcome. Welcome each of your feeling with gratitude and don’t be afraid to laugh along the way.

Laughter is the very best medicine because it emits such a positive vibration.

Step 4: S – Surrender. Surrender to your Higher Self. Listen to your inner-voice and follow the path to bliss.

Your emotions are powerful tools that can be used to understand your desires and guide you toward your soul’s purpose.

Spend some time now to see where your inner-compass leads, and enjoy the experience(tm) along the way.
