I’m sure by now you you’ve heard the term man boobs – an embarrassing condition suffered by a surprisingly large number of men today. What you may not know however, is how simple it is to get rid of man boobs forever by using some common sense health strategies.

What are Man boobs?

So let me just say to begin with that I’m not usually a fan of silly nicknames - but man boobs I guess is as good, (and about as accurate) as any to describe the condition of gynecomastia – otherwise also known as man breasts. Gynecomastia (or just to confuse things even more, also spelt gynaecomastia) is a condition that refers to a swelling of the breast tissue amongst males which can create the appearance of breasts.

Just for completeness, we will also mention the term moobs here which describes the same thing, but as moobs is (in my humble opinion) a rather ridiculous name, we’ll just stick with man boobs if that’s ok…

What Causes Man boobs?

Like many health related conditions, there is often more than one cause of a particular medical condition, and gynecomastia is no exception. Generally believed to be caused by a hormone imbalance of oestrogen and testosterone in the body, the NHS report that man breasts or man boobs can also be caused by obesity – as the oestrogen levels in overweight men can cause a man’s breasts to grow. This is often the result of poor diet and poor lifestyle health choices. Other reported causes of gynaecomastia include:

Excessive intake of alcohol

The use of certain drugs such as anabolic steroids or even street drugs such as marijuana and heroi

Genetic abnormality (which is inherited)

A side effect of certain diseases and medicatio

Puberty, due to boys’ hormone levels fluctuating

Older age, as less testosterone is produced as men get older

It’s also worth mentioning here that it was generally thought that consuming soy based products like tofu and soy milk was a contributing factor to someone developing gynecomastia. This was because soy is rich in isoflavones which are plant-based molecules with oestrogen-like activity.

Oestrogen as we all know is a female hormone, and too much of it in a male body would cause the oestrogen/testosterone imbalance we mentioned earlier.
However recent studies have shown that this is probably not the case, as researchers could not find a link between typical soy-based consumption and isoflavone levels that would conditions such as man boobs, or in fact have any “feminizing effects on men”

How To Get Rid of Man boobs

There are a number of ways available to get rid of man boobs – depending on the severity of the condition and type, and it’s always recommended to consult your medical professional for the best option for you.

Surgery is one option - (including new treatments such as laser lipo surgery.) Surgical procedures to remove the excess tissue around the man breasts in most cases will help to achieve immediate results by altering the shape of your body, but, as with any surgery there are risks and complications involved, it’s expensive, and it doesn’t really help to address core lifestyle issues.

Another option to treat gynaecomastia (gynecomastia) is to use products that can be taken internally (pills/capsules) or exte
ally applied (creams) that contain pharmacologic agents such as clomiphene and tamoxifen. These, depending on the severity of the condition can have varying results.

However, as in the vast majority of cases man boobs are caused by poor diet and exercise, (according to recent reports a third of people in the USA are obese, two in three are overweight, and the NHS reports that nearly a quarter of people in the UK are also in the obese range) it’s more than likely that excess body fat is the culprit. With these numbers, it’s no wonder that man breasts are becoming an embarrassing problem to a lot of men.

So unless you have a specific or chronic medical condition, then the best answer on how to get rid of man boobs for good is to simply adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Long term lifestyle changes and losing weight through eating less and exercising more are a far more safe and rewarding way to lose your man boobs for good and feel good about yourself.

Exercises to Get Rid of Man Boobs

The first thing to understand is that losing man boobs does not mean targeting only the chest area of the body with specific exercises, but using exercise to lose fat all over your body. For example, experts such as the Sports Science Institute of South Africa advise an overall fitness plan to get rid of man boobs.
Workouts such as 30 minute high intensity cardio on most days of the week and at least two sessions of resistance training a week which include exercises for all parts of the body, but should focus on chest exercises especially is recommended.

If you already are training regularly and your man boobs still have pride of place on your chest, then you may need to intensify your workouts. It’s easy to get sucked into doing the same exercise routines over and over, without really pushing ourselves. You need to really push yourself – hard, almost to the point of fatigue – so that your body gets the signals to produce more testosterone to help repair muscles. This will then help bring the hormonal imbalance back to normal levels, which will help get rid of man boobs.

Chest exercises particularly using weights or bodyweight can be used to help nuke man breasts. Push ups are a great bodyweight exercise as are pull ups, as they involve many muscle groups. To vary the difficulty, involve even more muscles and burn more calories, a good tip is to vary your grip (wider, narrower) from time to time.

If using weights, then try standing exercises like barbell rows rather than ones where you lay or sit down like bench press. Lifting weights while standing involves more muscles which makes your body work harder – and produce more testosterone.

What to Eat To Lose Man Boobs

To get rid of man breasts means you need to restore your overall health – and for this you need to have a good, balanced diet. What does this mean? Well in essence it’s as simple as eating more fruit, vegetables, starchy, fibre-rich foods and fresh produce, and staying away from foods that are fatty, high in sugar and salt, avoiding anything that’s processed as well as reducing alcohol intake to one or two units a week.

Although counting calories is a great way to regulate your food intake, if this is too involved for you, then simply reducing thesize of your portions will help zap those man boobs. A tennis ball sized portion of carbs like pasta or potatoes along with a palm sized portion of lean protein and plenty of fresh veg or salad on your plate are a pretty good measure of what you need to be eating at mealtimes to help you with your gynecomastia.

If you are not overweight and you think your man boobs are due to something else, then you need to see your doctor.

However in the majority of cases shedding body fat will help solve your man boobs problem, and help your overall health in the process. It’s up to you to adopt a permanent healthy lifestyle plan of a good diet and exercise.
