With so many tribulations in life, it’s easy to lose the correct perspective and to focus on problems like the lack of money and time, between other giant challenges that we need to face every day. If we are not careful, we can easily forget about the great blessings the Great Creator of the Universe (Jehovah, Yahweh) has allowed us to have, such as: our health, family, friends, plenty of material goods, our job or business, and opportunities for growing and giving. We are living in such a fast pace that we don’t appreciate anymore our daily living. Every day it’s a gift and a special unique moment in the whole ete ity, which is not going to repeat itself; but when we don’t have the correct perspective, our day seems to be a stressful experience and we become ungrateful about the great gift, which is life itself. Perspective is all about how we see life itself. For example, the cost of living and unemployment rates may be increasing; the wrong perspective would be thinking and declaring negative based on the natural circumstances. On the contrary, the correct perspective is thinking and declaring that the Great Creator of the Universe will provide regardless of any actual situation. It’s written, “Give your worries to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will never let good people down.” (Psalm 55:22, NCV). On every situation, we will always have the same two choices; the wrong and the correct perspective. If we choose to see the situation with the wrong perspective, we will feel stressful, weak and sad; but if we decide to have the correct perspective, we will be full of joy and tough enough to win the battle ahead. We need to know that every life situation serves a higher purpose and there is always “peace after the storm.” In the Sacred Scriptures says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NKJV). The foundation of happiness is having a grateful spirit. We can’t allow the seeds of negative stress, sadness and disappointment to grow in our hearts. How to change a bad situation begins with being more grateful. Instead of complaining about what we don’t have, we need to thank the Great Creator of the Universe for all we have already. I have spoken with people who had suffered the loss of a loved one, their job or who are dealing with health problems; and they told me that they don’t have any reason to be grateful. However, I have taught them that it’s all a matter of perspective. There are a lot of people who will like to live with the quality of life that you truly have. There are blind people who would love to see like you are able to, and there are deaf people who will like to have the hearing capability you have. How often do you remember to thank the Great Creator of the Universe for your health, family, friends, and for all the other blessings that He gives you every day? One of the keys to reach your goals is to not complain about your current situation. You might say to me, “Juan, if you were married to my spouse or if you had my financial debts, you will probably complain too.” Dear friend, always remember this: “if you complain, you are not going to prevail; but if you are grateful, you are going to be successful!” One strategy that I use to keep myself grateful is to have a background (wallpaper) on my computer with some of the blessings that God allows me to have. It’s a picture collage of my family, my car, my house, and even a photocopy of the letter I received when I become a college professor for the first time. I use my computer every day; therefore, every time I see the wallpaper, I remember to praise the Great Creator of the Universe for His blessings, love and mercy. I recommend, you use a similar strategy. Maybe you can create your own wallpaper, or you could use another tool like writing a list with all the things you should be grateful for and put it in your mirror or in your refrigerator and read it every morning when you wake up, and every night before going to bed. A hurricane was on a collision course with Iberia Parish Louisiana. That was not uncommon. Numerous hurricanes have pummeled this portion of the Gulf Coast in the past. People in the low lying areas of Cypremort Point, Louisa and Weeks Island and moved further inland to evade the surge and flooding that would becoming that way. There was one road from New Iberia to the “Point” and if you waited to long that road would be under water and you would be unable to get away to higher ground.r
