The CNA certification exam is designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to safely perform the job of a nursing assistant. Here are some tips to serve as a guide on how to study for the CNA Test and obtain your CNA certification.

In order to be able to practice as a certified nursing assistant, you have to take around 75 to 80 hours of CNA training as approved by the respective state. After the training, you are supposed to pass a competency examination which will test both the conceptual knowledge and clinical skills. You can find large number of CNA practice tests online as well as there are some practice books and medical text books available as well to help you prepare for the CNA tests. To study for the CNA test you can also refer the e-books that contain sample questions according to the respective state CNA exams and also provide detailed explanations.

The basic steps to study and prepare for the CNA tests' theory section are similar to the one that you follow for any other exam. Make a note of all the important points that you come across in your CNA training classes and spend enough amount of time every day for revising those points before your CNA test. Memorize all the important client rights and details as laid by the respective state that you sign up for, to be prepared for the legal questionnaire. Infection control occupies a large part of the CNA test, hence read and study up on knowledge of proper hand washing and infection control to ace the test.

In order to study for the CNA tests' practical section, practice all the vital care-giving skills such as taking vital signs, mobility techniques as well as helping patients with their daily activities of feeding, bathing and elimination procedures, that a CNA is required to know very well. You can also create your own practice tests to test your practical skills.

Take practice tests to find out your weak areas and improve them. The examiner will score you on the basis of how well you accomplish all the skills that you are asked to demonstrate as well as how well you communicate with the patient while doing these activities.
