I Think I Can't, I Think I Don't, I Think I Won't

Does this sound like you?

I don't think I can have abundance in my life!
I Think I can't make this work!
I think I don't deserve to win with lotto!
I think I won't get this job interview!

If any of this sounded like you, you're not alone! I have a lot of clients dealing with similar issues. I have a client terrified to dream big because she thinks it'll never happen. I have a client that thinks I am crazy when I talk about the law of attraction, and Ihave another client that had an interview with a CEO who sent her to meet with the HR people and she still sent me a note saying she didn't think she'd get the job. I have still another one that thinks that he doesn't deserve to have abundance in his life and that he can't have it.
Do you know what all these clients have in common? No, it's not me, it's something else. They are all correct. If this is the kind of self talk they are practicing they will not have abundance, not get the job, not have the big dreams that are like winning the lotto come to them, and not be able to make things work!

Recently I was struck by the simplicity of the Law of Attraction and that the seeds of it are planted in all of us as children. It didn't occur to me until just a few days ago however while I was coaching a client on self talk and how the Law of Attraction works. The Law of Attraction operates on the premise that thoughts are like radio waves and that positive thoughts attract positive things and negative thoughts attract negative things. Under this theory thinking that “I never have any money” will result in this happening, but thinking that,“I always have money” will result in always having money. If this is starting to sound familiar to you it should.
It sounds familiar to you for 1 of 2 reasons, 1 being you've seen or heard of The Secret and/or 2 being you read as a child the book The Little Engine That Could.
In the book the little engine has to go up a very steep hill, one much bigger than it had ever gone up before. The little engine starts to go up the hill continually saying, “I think I can, I think I can” and ultimately gets to the top of the hill saying, “I thought I could, I thought I could.” This neat little story was the first time I was exposed to the concept of the Law of Attraction, I just didn't realize it until a few days ago, and maybe you didn't realize it until just now.

My clients often ask me for practical tips on changing their self talk and changing the tape in their head. They come with all kinds of issues that have been put on them in their lives and don't realize the effect the self talk is having on their lives until we are in session.

Negative self talk destroys the life you are meant to have and like I said in the other article on slavery and freedom, it keeps you enslaved.

Here are some practical ways to change your negative self talk:

Create a vision of everything you want your life to be. I even went so far as to create a screen saver as a vision board with text saying, “this is my house...”

Write out your vision and put pictures with it and look at it throughout the day. If possible record the written vision and play it to yourself several times a day. I play mine about 8 or 9. I find the more times I play it the better the effect.

Correct the thoughts you have that say “I can't, I don't, I won't” and turn them around to say “I can, I do, I will” keep all the thoughts you correct in positive terms. Don't say “I don't want to be fat” say “I am thin”

Using the present tense helps with reprogramming the thought pattern. I have tried it both ways and it is much better to say “I am” than “I will”
