Most of us have beliefs about money that impact our relationship with it. These beliefs can help us succeed or serve as obstacles.
Many times our attitudes and beliefs about money came from our family or our culture. Beliefs that made sense to our parents and grandparents may not really fit us today. These may have become limiting beliefs for us. Take an inventory and brainstorm about your beliefs about money. Below are some common sets of beliefs that limit us with money:
Belief:
- "Money will change you."
- "People won't like me if I'm rich."
- "Money will make you arrogant or too big for your britches."
In fact, those statements are really about how you ACT when you have money. The key to how you act resides inside you, and has nothing to do with money turning you into someone else. You are who you are, and that doesn't have to change because you have money.
Belief:
- "Having a lot of money is bad."
- "Money is the root of all evil."
- "Money isn't spiritual."
It's important to realize that money isn't positive or negative. It is what we do with it that determines its value to our world. If you want, you can accumulate abundance in order to help others. You don't have to buy expensive cars or houses with it.
Belief:
- "I don't deserve to have money."
- "I'm not good enough."
- "I don't deserve to have a lot of money."
- "I'm not worthy."
This belief and those associated with it have to do with self-evaluation as not deserving wealth. In fact, all of us deserve to have the abundance the universe can bring us. This set of limiting beliefs definitely needs to be released or challenged.
If any of the beliefs discussed here are beliefs of yours, find someone who can help you "undo" them. Even though you and everyone in your family has believed these things doesn't mean you can't change them relatively easily. Isn't it worth it to let go of the beliefs that limit you about money?
