There is a saying, “If I told you once, I told you a million times.” Managers may find themselves often frustrated with low task completion rates of their employees. As a manager, this common saying is missing a key step. In order to improve production of your employees, the following is recommended:
1- Sit the employee down and discuss why the task they are doing is important.
2- Show the employee how to do the task step by step and have them write notes on key procedures.
3- Allow the employee to go through the process with you beside them to immediately correct any errors.
4- Allow the employee to go through the process again without your comments. It should be more than 90% accurate.
5- Encourage them to continue doing the process correctly.
It is not easy being a manager, but you will see time put into the system will give your company great rewards. A manager may say, “If I told you once, I told you a million times.” However we don’t want our employees to reply, “Yes, but you never showed me!”
