Keywords are the lifeblood of marketing on the Internet. Keywords are how search engines find your website pages, articles or videos that bring information to the masses. Keywords are descriptive words or phrases about your, your art or your business. The more refined they are, the easier the search engines can give a searcher the exact match to what they were looking for. What are good keywords? Let's take a look.
If you are a watercolor artist and you are trying to sell paintings on the Internet, good keywords would be:
*Watercolor paintings
*watercolor prints for sale or
*online watercolor printsr
Try and avoid very general keywords such as:
*art
*paintings
*artworkr
Almost every art website will have these words in them and it doesn't narrow the search far enough down to make exact matches. Notice how we used the word "watercolor" to make a more specific niche.
Using common sense when choosing keywords can be helpful, but is only part of the picture. The search engines are relying on you to make it easy for you them to find your site. A search engine like Google is a business just like any other...they need their searchers to be happy with the results they get, or they will search elsewhere. Google will avoid any website where the keywords are not precise and clear as to what the site is about. This is how a website gets good positioning. A good positioned website makes money because people all over the world can find it, no matter what kind of business it is.
There are other factors involved in getting a website high on the search results. Things like how many times the keyword is repeated (not enough and you won't be noticed, too much and you can get banned) or where on the page is the best place to put keywords. The proper training will be your best investment with your keyword research and will guarantee better placement in the search results month after month. You can turn a hobby or side job into a full fledged online business in no time.
